What did you do in the garden today?

I live in Northern California close to Redding.

Where do you live? I have squash bugs, squash lady beetles, squash vine borers & cucumber beetles. Consider yourself VERY lucky!

Got my first greenstalk in. I only did 3 of 7 tiers since it's for lettuce only this year, gardening is pretty much over here - or at least planting anything new is past. I wish I had some spinach to put in it, only have lettuce seed. I think I'll like having them & it will work for a number of things that I can't bend to grow any more.

I got inspired by this asparagus video; I like the way this guy trims to one stem. I can't wait to try it.

105, it's 105. NOt feels like 105. It IS 105.
Add in the humidity.....and bleh.
ONE more day of this, one more day of animal checks every 3 hours, one more day of wetting down pens and hosing animals.

No gardening today. I have some jalapeños coming in along with a bell pepper. The pole beans in the corn patch are nearly all in bloom. Lots of male flowers on the summer squash plants but no female ones. Wah! The cucumber plants are blooming so I’m hoping for at least a few cukes this year. DD came over earlier today and we got the final post hole dug (there’s just so many rocks) and hung the privacy fence in the new chicken yard. After lunch I mowed most of the backyard. Rain is expected tonight. We may get an inch or more.

Forecast to be too hot to do anything in the garden. We missed out on the heat because it stayed overcast. The sun is just now breaking out, and it's too late to be much of a factor. We're about to get a severe thunderstorm warning. It's so humid, the air is so unstable. Something has to happen.

I will have to try squash fries. My squash chips are good but recipe needs tweaked a bit. Made cucumber, tomato and onion salad. I added ripe bell pepper and summer squash also. Got to 99 today and felt like 120.

Turned a countertop full of tomatoes into 4.5 qts of tomato soup for winter. OMG it's so yummy. Could use a tad bit of baking soda to adjust it, but I'll save that for when I warm it up on the day. High acid in the canner is fine.
