I am thinking I need a better way to organize and store my seeds. Right now I just have them in a small 4X6 inch cardboard box...

All my current seeds fit in that little box. However, I am starting to save seeds from plants we are growing. So, I can imagine needing more room for the seeds. Also, I have been reading and watching that it would be better to keep them dark and airtight if possible. Another consideration is making the seed box mouse proof. Last year Dear Wife saved some seeds, left them on a plate to dry out, and one night a mouse must have found them and ate them all. She was devastated. So any storage system will have to be mouse proof as well.

I looked on Amazon and their "Seed Boxes" are pretty darned expensive. I mean, some of them are nothing more than a metal can with "Seeds" painted on it...

Well, heck, I know that Harbor Freight has waterproof and airtight ammo boxes on sale all the time. I found this 11.6 X 4.25 X 6 inch ammo box on sale this month for $3.99...

That's the smallest ammo box they have at the store. They have larger sizes, too. But this small ammo box would be double what I currently have for storage.

My goal is to stop buying new seeds every year. If possible, I will save seeds from our plants when we can, but I would also like to buy seed packs at the end of the season at great discounts and save them for the next year.

I also checked YouTube to see if anyone was using these water resistant ammo boxes for seed storage and found this video short...

The small ammo box (with twice the capacity I am using right now) looks like it might be good enough for my current and immediate future needs. Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated. I am open to all suggestions. Thanks.

I have been using empty pill bottles and the silica packets. I wash the bottles before I put my seeds in them and because they are not see through it works.

Farmer 13. I just purchased a whole bunch of pepper seeds then I planted them in the greenhouse. I have plants that look like the picture you posted. Do you know the name of them? I would like to know the names of all my peppers but I didn't go all out on planting because last year I read about wild gardening and I did that both last year and this year.

23 quarts of tomato products. 2 water bath canners going = 14 quarts. One more batch to do when these are done. A this point I would guess about 11 to 12 quarts nearly clear juice. That is about 3 gallons of water I did not simmer into the house. It is hot enough canning without adding all that humidity.

Finally relocated the aquaponics setup after eight months. We had to move it because of home fumigation last year. I bought a new tank, which is a good thing. This one is much more durable.

6 juice and 8 sauce out and I think they all sealed. 7 more in the canner. I had about 1 gallon plus seeds and peels. I have not done this in a while but I saved the seeds. 5 gallon bucket seeds and water. Float off the peels by pouring out carefully watching for the seeds. Stopped when seeds were near coming out. Filled with water again. Will pour off water again. I will dry seeds in the dehydrator. These were all Romas. I will do a germination test.

I grow cucumbers for my geese, tomatoes for my husband, and beets and winter squash (Delicata, mini Butternut this year) for me!

Rosemary was too fragrant for the ants and they ran away @WthrLady. Lol! Still picking cherry tomatoes and occasional SM tomatoes. What doesn’t get used fresh has ti go into the freezer for canning later. The big front burner on my new stove isn’t working properly so it’s not safe to can on. It’s still under warranty but the repairman can’t get here for 2 more weeks. Wah! Then they are just troubleshooting first.

Yes, I know those plastic storage boxes are very popular for seeds. Where do you get your boxes really cheap on sale? I have never seen any sold in our local stores, so I would have to order online. Is there a specific name for those boxes?

FYI, I don't have nearly enough seeds, at present, to fill up one of those organizers, which is why I am considering the small ammo box at half the size. But I see lots of "serious" gardeners who save seeds use those boxes like you have. They sure look nice, and I hear lots of good things about them. Easy to label, easy to see, stores a lot, etc...

I've picked up mine on sale from Hobby Lobby for just a few dollars but I've also seen them at Walmart, Target, and Michaels. I believe at Christmas time last year, Amazon also had them marked down pretty low around $10-$15 or so. I paid way less than that though and severely try to limit what I buy from Amazon since most of their stuff is cheap junk.
