What did you do in the garden today?

Finally got around to filling one of the beds with some veggie mix, tomorrow afternoon or the following day I'll work on the pumpkin patch. It's come apart at the corner and I may put star pickets in to stop the colorbond from blowing out much more and then use a spare piece of it to enclose the corner better and stop spillage.

Had to also work on the bobcat pins to allow for a nice lubricated action and it's doing well now. Not sure what's going on with the strawberries. Vietmint continues to sprawl and the veggie seedlings are in dire need of a transplant. One thing that I will note about the chillie seedlings is that the varieties in the bigger seed cell seem to be doing quite well (you can kinda see them at the back) compared to the varieties in the smaller seed cells. Still looking for a seed cell tray in Australia that's not brittle and actually hard plastic.

@Wee Farmer Sarah - we sleep with the fan in the window & forgot to close the bedroom door, hence the house being in the 50s & needing the pellet stove. I brought out the heated bed for the dog, he's from the south & does not appreciate the cold like we do. :lau

Raining again. Shocking. So I'm sitting around doing nothing today, love a good do nothing rainy day. I really should be making christmas jams. Seems like a project I need to psych myself up for though & I haven't done that yet. I'm thinking just strawberry rhubarb since I still have some left from the garden. Nothing exciting this year, just simple.

I did notice the horseradish I thought I killed popped up like 3 feet away. Ok, I'll take that!

I picked about 3 quarts of green beans this morning. This is the first time I have tried fall green beans. I have to say it’s a lot nicer to pick beans when it’s 65 degrees outside rather than 85 degrees when I pick them in July or August. This was the first picking and it looks like a lot more beans are coming. Average first frost date is October 15. No sign of frost in the 2 week forecast so I think we timed the planting just about right.

The rest of the garden is coming to an end. The tomato plants look pretty well spent but they keep on fruiting so we keep picking them. We gave up on weeding several weeks ago. I still have some kohlrabi out and some of the flowers are still hanging in there.

Part of me wants to just clean out the chicken coop and cover the garden up with the spent chicken bedding. But it is still producing food so we keep on picking. I suppose I’ll wait for the first killing frost then close it up.

The peas planted for fall are coming into full production. I didn't plant very much; there is enough to add crunch to daily salads. The previous planting is nearly done. Next year we plan to plant a lot more in the spring and for the fall.

The beans planted for fall are not happy. I don't know why.

The lettuce is up. The bok choy is up to second or third sets of leaves. Both seem to be happy.

The strawberries are very happy. They have ramped up sending out runners. More and more vigorous daughter plants than earlier in the summer. I want to transplant a lot of them - at least into rows or mat rows even if in the same section of the garden but dh likes the solid mass. I don't get why on earth he likes that better than rows.

Aphids are attacking the broccoli. I've taken out two plants because the aphids were so bad. Last year, the broccoli was hit hard by cabbage moths; this year, there are only a few. We are still getting somewhat more than enough to eat.

The rest is about as it has been.

OH you didn't kill it, you just ANGERED it. Now they'll be more than ever.

Nothing done in the garden today, other than do a walk through.

No deer jumped the fence and ate my kale last night. Good!

Some tomatoes are turning, but not enough to pick yet. I did pluck all the blossoms off of the tomato plants, so I guess I did something.

I think a couple lettuce seeds have sprouted, but it could just be weeds. haha

Need to pick last two zucchinis, the beans and a few cucumbers and yank out the vines.
