What did you do in the garden today?

We got another 4 inches of rain. The yard is squishy, the water just has no where to go. I wanted to turn the compost but I'd make a mess just getting the tractor there.

I pulled the bean plants. I'm over beans & it was almost impossible to walk under the trellis to get in the garden at this point.

Trying to decide if there's any way for me to clean out the garden, or if I should just let it go till spring. Or I can send DH out with the weed burner.

Would love to do something in the garden ( weeds have grown like weeds 🤪) but I’m not allowed to bend for 5 more months 🙄 usually, it’s only 3 months of no bending, when I asked a doctor about it, she said the surgeon that had operated me knew why he said 6 instead of 3 months, and I should stick with it 😬
I feel your pain, I'm on 10 months now of no bending, lifting or twisting. Sucks, right? ❤️

Good afternoon gardeners. Love the picture of fall colors @jerryse. We are just now seeing our trees getting some color. We ended up with 2 inches of rain here @Sueby. Fingers crossed we won’t see anymore until next weekend. Between the sump pump running constantly and the basement dehumidifier running my electric bill is sky high. The very back area of the yard is beyond squishy and just big puddles here and there. I’m hoping the ground dries out enough to plug away at the new chicken coop. I need think about taking care of the garden cleanup as well. Always something to get to. Lol!

No, got a hip replacement , problem is if you bend too much, the new hip could get dislocated , which is very painful, requires a trip to the emergency room ( and I’ve had enough hospital visits !) and if I’m lucky a short stay in the hospital to get it relocated, worst case another replacement hip…but the other hip is wonky too 😬 and, I’m not a teenager, but not the median age for hip replacement (70) either, so it really isn’t fun 😞, was born with hip dysplasia, but only found out about it after my hips were no longer working like they should :(
Been there, done that. Follow the medical directions and you should do fine. 👍🏻

I finally got around to picking all the cucumbers, even the tiny ones, and throwing the vines into the chicken run. Did the same thing with my last giant zucchini plant. And with half of the remaining bean plants. The chickens love eating the bean leaves, but the squash and cucumber leaves, not so much.

I plucked a lot of dried out marigold seed heads. I'm thinking about tossing loads of marigold seeds along the side of the ditch in front of the house and see what happens. I'll could do the same thing with zinnia seeds and parsley seeds. Why not? LOL.

I pulled up all the dill plants too, and broadcast the dried seeds over a section of the yard where nothing much grows. Maybe dill will like it there.

This morning I stopped by the local nursery and bought some collard seedlings. On impulse I picked up a couple packs of buttercrunch leaf lettuce seedlings, and two packs of pansies. It's the first time in many years that I decided to add pansies to the yard.

I started double-digging, adding some partly composted yard clippings. Oh, and the rotten watermelon got buried as well:

I planted 4 collards and 4 buttercrunch lettuce plants. I removed the bottoms from some cheap plastic pots to make collars:

Another bone dry day, heading into the upper 90s again. Air is filled with wildfire smoke and harvest dust, and howling winds to 40mph.
I'm working on wall panel #2 at the moment.
Panel #3 for tomorrow, is marked, but I won't cut it until #2 is installed.
I'll do up and install #3 tomorrow.
Then rinse and repeat for #4 Monday.
