What did you do in the garden today?

For me it's about speed because I tried doing a more standard tomato variety in kratky last year and while it handled the heat. I chopped too much and the roots were insane and it just drank 200Ls up without the fruit ever going red. I'll look for those varieties then, seems to be available down under.
You should try dwarf or determinate tomato varieties in double stacked wicking buckets or earth boxes.

I dug some purple potatoes today. My back needed a break from the up-and-down motion of dig/bend/pick up, so I pulled some weeds. Then I started thinking about the sweet potatoes (right next to the regular spuds, so not a long thought process). I really wanted to see if there might.... maybe ... be a sweet potato with a bit of size to it....

So I dug around the base of one vine a little bit and dug out two tubers. There are more in there, under that plant. And 19 or 20 more plants.

I am blown away. Wow, just freaking wow.
:eek::th

Now I need to get them all dug before we get too many chilly nights. I'll cure them in the green house.

I see sweet potato pies in your future....

I gave up on markers. For my tomatoes this year, I did this: make a map of what is in the garden on the computer, and print it out. Then I take a picture of map with my phone so that I always have it.

The problem with that is: map made, stuff in garden. Late frost takes out a bunch of stuff, here and there. Replant with purchased plants that are NOT the same variety. I had to redo the map, and instead of having all the Ace 55 in a row, I had some Supersteak interspersed.
I also draw a layout of my garden on my computer. Yes it can be frustrating if you have to replant, but it still helps. It's better than the marker wearing off on the craft stick!

For plant markers I'll only need for the season I use the oil based markers that WthrLady mentioned. I write with these on old vinyl blinds. I write on both sides of the blind. They work really well.

Blue is my favorite color! I really love this! 😍 Looks great!
This also sounds like a good idea! One thing I like about this thread is the variety of ideas people have!

Wow! Those are big. We've never had much success with sweet potatoes. We've also been working at digging potatoes this week.
