What did you do in the garden today?

Nice! Yeah, the first fall I planted the saffron crocus, they bloomed. How many bulbs did you plant? I think I pl Ted something like 20 across two pots. They produc more than enough saffron than I’ll use each year.

Oh and the their leaves are there. They’re the very then green spikes. After you pluck the saffron and the flower does back, it’s leaves will continue to grow quite long. Like maybe 6-8 inches.
Thanks for the information! Good to know.

I planted about 20-25 I think. I planted them in 4 different location of my yard. There are 5 in that picture with 2 blooming.

Here’s some of our from last year. Pluck those threads while you can! They dry very easily if just set aside.

Share if you make anything fun with them!

Good afternoon all. Got the pickets done today and I LOVE this color! I have part of a can left and I’m going to paint the ugly pipe we can’t get out of the ground with it. Hubs put our rain gauge on it so it might well look nicer.

Starting to save pumpkin seeds, asking friends who have different pumpkins to do the same. Will be saving seeds from winter squash I buy as well. Hopefully I will get a nice collection. In addition I am planning to test germinate some seeds. I might start my corn inside this winter, to get a jump on next year’s crop. Also going to sort out seed from my organic chicken feed and try and germinate that, I’ve sprouted some before accidentally. Anyway planning ahead. ✌️

That is a great color! Very happy and fun!

Today I keep digging and cleaning up weed block fabric :he (I did not put them there). Beautiful rich soil on top of it. Afterwards, I threw seeds of carrots, parsley, kale there.

I finally finished inoculating a log with 70 shitake plugs.

Then I saw beauty totally by surprise!! I have saffron flowers! I only planted the bulbs 1.5 month ago. Did not think anything would happen until next year.

They are beautiful. But there are like no leaves though.
They look like crocus flowers.

Pretty! When I was little, Mom planted red cannas along the back of the house, every summer. We are in Michigan, so she dug them up, every fall. But - I think she planted tubers, not seeds
They're perennials here, zone 8a.
