What did you do in the garden today?

Happy Sunday!

Been busy round here. We got 2 bushes moved to the chicken run, the girls are very happy to be plucking leaves. It's funny to watch them jump.

All the Dahlia tubers are dug & stored.

& more general fall clean up happening. I'm off to pull tomato plants & throw them in the burn pile.
Those bushes look very nice Sueby! What kind are they? Next spring I want to put a couple things in their run, still thinking about what.

G’morning all. It’s a beautiful day here. Went to the park of course, then decided today is a chill day. I was talking with hubs about all the creatures I saw in our yard yesterday. Hummingbirds galore, lots of bees, a dragonfly, lizards everywhere. Our wild quail Quincy too. Such a big difference from when we moved in here, makes me really happy. This week I’m going to repaint the bird bath and get the pickets painted and work on leveling the garden beds and filling them.

When my tomato plants get stressed from rinsing the soil off the roots and stuck in the Kratky buckets, they become susceptible to the TYLCV disease that has infected my yard. The shut off valves make it easier to change out plants, in the Kratky method the water level is higher at the beginning, so the valve remains shut until the water levels becomes the same level as the float valve setting.

I will be converting them to wicking buckets, so the shut off valve is unnecessary.

Thanks. Now that makes sense and I understand.

I have yellow with orange splotches/spots. Lots of them, happy to share!

Beautiful! I'd LOVE some if you have any seeds or rhizomes!

Here's a picture of the ones I had at my old house. I had a mix of red and orange although you can't see the red ones here.... I'm really hoping these seeds sprout!

So today I decided to go dig up the few strawberries that managed to root from runners in the ground around the area where I originally had the barrels sitting.

I found just a couple around the first barrel location... Easy to dig up and transplant in the barrel.

Got to the 2nd area and was FLOORED at the number of tiny little plants everywhere! They seemed to have spread rather quickly. I probably dug up over a dozen tiny plants... Who knew that strawberries could actually be invasive almost?!?! 😂😂

I also dug up yet MORE irises that I missed the first time. Since I have absolutely ZERO places to put them, I gifted them to my neighbor. In turn, she pulled up some type of purple plant to give me back (even though I didn't ask). She said they root incredibly easy... Anyone know what it is?

I can thin them and send you the tubers/rhizomes, let me know when you want them.

I planted them all along the back of the house.

⬆️ The ones along the house get about 4'-5' tall, the ones by the bird feeders get 6'-7' tall (the tall plants to the left of the propane tank).⬇️

Can you post a photo of a leaf?

Today I keep digging and cleaning up weed block fabric :he (I did not put them there). Beautiful rich soil on top of it. Afterwards, I threw seeds of carrots, parsley, kale there.

I finally finished inoculating a log with 70 shitake plugs.

Then I saw beauty totally by surprise!! I have saffron flowers! I only planted the bulbs 1.5 month ago. Did not think anything would happen until next year.

They are beautiful. But there are like no leaves though.
