What did you do in the garden today?

I’m in zone 9b and will be starting seeds this weekend. Our last frost date is Feb 5, so you’re a wee early.
I was just trying to figure out when I should start my seeds for next spring. I'm Zone 7B. Last freeze date is April 9th. Last frost date is April 20th. So I will likely start my seeds somewhere in the first 2 weeks of February... That feels like a lifetime away but I'm sure it will be here before you know it. 🙄

Your 5 weeks ahead of me, and I start 1 april, (I plant june 1) so early/midFeb sounds about right for you :D

@igorsMistress. I'm in 9a and my last frost date is April 15th. Now I'm wondering if I need to check it again. I would love to be able to start the garden in March.
I honestly don’t know. Does the zone have anything to do with frost dates? I thought it was based on temps during the growing season and my zone didn’t change. For most people the change in growing zone didn’t change what or when they’re planting.

Here in zone 7b , I start some plant seeds starting in January, like cardoon and artichokes. Lettuces, green onions, broccoli and etc. , for early starts, indoors, for transplanting outdoors, under covers and then slow developing plants like peppers and similar the middle of February or the first of March and tomatoes and such in mid March. The main summer gardens start getting planted in late April and early May. In fact there are no months I am not starting some seeds or bulbs/cuttings , etc. Most winters I can grow some limited crops all winter long under row covers or over winter some crops that are perennials or that I wish to bring to seed in the spring. Rare very cold temps can freeze my winter garden out some years, despite my row covers. Gardening is year round here for me and on the cold wet winter days I spend shelling last years peas, grinding corn meal and planning next years efforts. Best wishes and Merry Christmas to all!
