What did you do in the garden today?

Sounds like you've been very busy, as well. So the disease that your neighbor's momma cow has, is it really serious? Is she going to be okay?
Yes, very serious because he let it go too long before getting her up. Vet said it is passed by horse fly and tick.
The virus inhibits the formation of red blood cells. Thirty cc of LA200 will kill the virus and 30 cc of B complex will help along with iron. Many cows can have it with no obvious symptoms until the anemia sets in. The mom is 11 years old and still pretty critical. We use a medicated mineral in our herd that has iron. He just uses salt blocks.

Pylorum???? Did you mean Pyola?
I used 3/4" electrical conduit to support my covering over the run. I used 2 x 4 fencing over the winter run, the snow falls through it with a bit of persuasion. Anything smaller would trap the snow and ice too well. So, I block the flock into that section of run for the winter, then put up bird netting over the rest of the run when i open it up for the summer.

I've read that you can freeze the elderberry umbels. Then, all you need to do to clean them is rap the bag on the counter, and you can pour the frozen berries out. I'm guessing you'd need some sort of sieve to separate the berries from the debris. My EB are blooming for the first time this year. I have 2 named cultivars, one of which is blooming, but also have 2 or 3 wild plants sprouting up here and there. My named plants have taken quite a hit from deer browsing, and one of them is just plain slow getting established. I'm guessing it doesn't like it's location.
Yes pyola.
Conduit! Thank you!
Elderberry spreads by root runners. I have a two gallon pot on the stove cooking berries for juice. Will let it sit to poach while I visit sister and drip from a cotton cloth when I get home.

I actually have a couple heads of cabbage in my garden had a very few wild blackberry's ripe also

OOOH! That kind of Petit chou is much easier to manage.

NanaKat: I see you have Colombian Wyandotte. How do you like her? I ordered some this spring, and almost cancelled them b/c I thought they looked dumpy compared to the other breeds I ordered. I must say that those CW are the biggest, beefiest, prettiest birds that I ordered! They are not very friendly, but they are BIG and gorgeous!

I wish it would rain here. It's VERY dry right now. I prefer it raining to me having to water the garden!

I'm getting ready to put my fall radish crops in the ground soon where my onions were. I might try to amend the soil a little with some sand first. It's not the best soil right now.
I also gotta get my potato boxes filled in more. I am falling behind on some things. I'll be really hauling butt this weekend to get stuff done.

Poor momma cow - I hope she recovers...
