HEE! Somebody else has spring fever! What's the soil like? Is it compacted? clay? Is there green growth on it now, or all dead from last winter? How soon are you going to plant? My garden is still under 2' of snow, with an other 5 - 10 due tomorrow. Oh happy day! Not!! If it's not compacted, and doesn't have a tangle of new growth, or heavily rooted from stuff that is still alive from last season, you might be able to just rake the debris off the top and use a garden fork to loosen the soil to the depth of the fork.(mine will loosen to about 10") Then plant and mulch, or mulch it until you are ready to plant.
I am not looking forward to the job today - double-dig the overgrown bed. Ugh. Maybe I'll just rake and burn instead.
it's funny. In the past I never thought about little bits of stuff on the ground. Now with poultry, if I drop a staple I spend all sorts of time searching and sporting that I won't find it but one of them will.If you got the time to double dig add some sand to help your clay soil drain. The best part of double digging is you don't have to do it very often.
Today I helped my DH cut a 55 gallon plastic barrel in half. Presto! New large pot to plant in! The hard part was getting all the tiny plastic filings out and disposed of where no animals can get to them.
Oh that's funny. I'd been trying for years to get DH to stop throwing his cigarette butts on the ground. All it took was his ducks to start nibbling them, and I don't have to worry about them littering the ground anymore!it's funny. In the past I never thought about little bits of stuff on the ground.
