What did you do in the garden today?

Can anyone identify this garlic? The top had fallen over and all the leaves were browning at the tips so I went ahead and dug it out. I think it's Russian Red garlic. I bought the original cloves at HomeDepot and they weren't labeled with the variety.

This is a pic of Red Russian garlic I found at this website. Looks very similar to mine.

I picked all the scapes and cooked them with a green onion and some bok choi to make a 6 egg frittata.

We got a surprise sprinkle this morning. Not even enough to wet the ground or lower the temperature. Just made things muggier. At least the cocoa tree is enjoying the humidity and heat. Oh, and the vanilla orchid is MUCH happier since it has been repotted. Saw a TINY bit of new growth. The first I've seen in 2 years! Hopefully it will actually grow now...

Rain isn't expected until Wednesday this week but, even with it, we are expecting triple digits for the next 10 days. 🥵🥵🥵

Rain chances increased for each day this week (not tomorrow) on the overnight model runs, so I chose to not mow hay today. I shall wait for another 4 day stretch.
Tomorrow and Tuesday will be scorching hot, but not windy enough to make up for not scorching hot or windy today, dew every morning, and the change of rain Tuesday night, Wednesday, Wednesday night, Thursday and Thursday night. Nope.
Scorching hot and windy for three days and I can cut and bale.
Anything else and I need a solid 4 days with no rain.

Glad you are at least getting some hay this year! Hopefully it is enough...

I picked cucumbers today. To my surprise there were enough to make a quart jar of pickles! I added some home grown carrots and onions to the mix, now there's a quart+1 pint of refrigerator pickles marinating in the fridge.

The no-see-em bites are still very very very itchy. Day 4. I just want to peel my skin off. I will never forget how miserable this is, ever again.

Trying to catch a gopher that came from the neighbors yard, right to my pumpkins.... 🙄

Picked my first tomatillos today!

Noticed that the sweet corn is now over 6' tall. I feel like I should be able to see ear nodes by now... But I haven't noticed any. I'll have to count leaf collars when it cools off enough to stand being outside. Mercury reading 97 right now, in the shade. And it's muggy somehow. Humidity is at 61~%. Unusual. There's even clouds up way high... Wind picking up a bit. Probably will cool off a bit soon. Hopefully.

Looks like my last pullet is going to lay an egg today. That'll be all 7 laying. Fed them a bunch of guppies and duckweed today.

That’s wonderful about your cucumbers 💕

Going to try Johnson and Johnson cornstarch for babies today...as that's what the store I was at had.
So, just to be sure I'm clear on the concept, can I dust myself with regular cooking cornstarch to foil bugs?
Cholesterol seems to be controversial, some Drs want to lower it at any cost. Others say it's more complicated and sometimes it's not that bad to have higher cholesterol.
I'm in the "it's more complicated," and I think my doc is too. He and I would like the LDL and TC lower, but my HDL and triglyceride numbers are really good. An internist friend of mine said, "With your HDL, the TC and LDL aren't really worrying."
Japanese beetles found my yard finally after 7 years or whatever, so I set out some bag traps and it's disgusting how many they're caught.
I caught 115 today. And this is just the beginning; they're still in the field, and haven't found some of the stuff that they've favored in years past.
I want nothing that works on the liver as it is already damaged. I do not buy the cholesterol lie. Eisenhower paradox. They started this low fat cholesterol stuff when Ike had his first heart attack. The paradox is it did not and does not help. Minesota research in 60s - 70s was hidden from the public until recently discovered. For every 30% lower cholesterol the death rate increased 22% for all causes. Since my experiences I have done my research and come to my own conclusions.
Good for you. I've been doing some reading/research too.

Other than the high TC and LDL, the rest of my blood work numbers are good. I am working very hard at keeping my health. Without taking pills.

I highly recommend the book, Your Blood Never Lies, by James B. LaValle. It tells you how to understand what the numbers mean, and what can influence them.
