What did you do in the garden today?

I'm from Skagway, originally, but bounced between there and Juneau until I married military and moved here to VA in 2002.
It's always nice to find someone who's lived back home.
I love Skagway use to meet a white horse crowd of friends there dance all weekend glad I was young then.

My family moved there immediately following a tornado that took out most of their neighborhood in Kansas City, Missouri, back before AK became a state. My Mom still lives in Juneau. Skagway was a fantastic place to grow up, but of course, it's all gone commercial, now.

My Mom complained yesterday that it was around the 70° mark, and folks were complaining about the heat, there in Juneau. 😆 It was around 100° here in VA, today. 🥵

My husband started building our first coop, yesterday, on (what was at that point) the hottest day of the year. I had no idea we'd be building in these temps, or that our chicks would be experiencing their first taste of outdoor living during a heat wave! I may be keeping them in our garage for an extra week, so my husband doesn't make himself ill, trying to get it built in this.

I planted nine baby corn stalks (last year's corn from seeds didn't survive past the baby ears point), today, did some more weeding in our garden, and took my two trellises out from behind some roses and put them to use in the veggie garden for our cucumbers. I'm sure I'm doing this wrong, but I haven't found any trellises in local stores, so I'm trying to work with what I've got.
We also got four rosebushes transplanted from pots, so they can finally have a home and fill out! Looks kinda sad, atm, but I'll add hostas & mums, soon.

I see it as being done right. You do you and don't worry about anyone else's opinion. My garden is just a case of okay the tilled area is planted, oh forget it and just throw the seeds out and then cover them with soil.

We tilled & amended our little garden patch last year, without much more than tomatoes to show for it. This year, we tilled & amended the soil a Lot more, adding lime (our soil was very acidic- great for blueberries, not so much for everything else), worm casings, and Many bags of compost and decent quality garden soil.
When we bought this place five years ago, the soil was mostly hard clay with a pH of 4.5. By the time we're ancient & no longer want to live here, the soil in the flowerbeds, coop area and garden will be FANTASTIC!
