What did you do in the garden today?

So cute! Makes me want some goats. Do you know how many acres you need to keep goats in, and what kind of shelter you need (in Minnesota)? Do you need a real guy barn for them?
You can keep up to 10 goats per acre if you are feeding them. I used to build 4' high, 4' wide, by 8' long shelters in each pasture. I had a barn, but only used it in winter for kidding. Goats hate to be wet and easily contract pneumonia which can kill them quickly. But they are great animals, so much fun.

I wish I had a bunch of stones to work with to build beds out of. That'd be wonderful! I would fill my whole front yard with flowers and herbs.... I might try to make something like that happen this year.
I almost missed these rocks. Seems he had a backup plan in case I didn't show up.

I got a bunch of rocks one time in florida, and they are very hard to find there. The guy just wanted to get rid of them!
Probably like here the line for getting them was long. Although not rare for rocks here these were brought in from quite a distance and since my fireplace was built out of the same rocks it was quite a find.

Today in the garden I went out too soon after my presumed heat exhaustion of yesterday and fell on my not-padded-quite-enough butt. Right where I was when I took that picture I just posted, by the teepee. But I didn't drop the cantaloupe! Second one of this season. I'm fine too. Took it relatively easy today. Still had to move the pullets twice, morning and evening. I think they are getting used to their rides in the huge dog crate. I know they are getting bigger and heavier. Told HE the henhouse MUST be functional before I have to use two kennels or make double trips with them all.

I was planning on selling my "extra" pullets this fall, but HE seems to think we might need to keep them. World events are troubling him. HE even said we might want to try keeping a rooster if a collar will keep one quiet enough! I haven't told him that keeping all 25 will mean we need a bigger henhouse and run. I already know we will need that. I want some Ayam Cemani birds. I want those bad. And some lavendar Orpingtons. And maybe some red and blue laced Wyandottes. I did tell him we'd need a place to pen meat birds away from the layers if he wants to try some next year. He said "OK, start thinking where that needs to be". I looked under the bed for alien pods, but nothing there besides our emergency supplies and a cat. That cat was born there, so I know she's not an alien pod person. Or alien pod feline.

I am thinking like he is. Part of why we are here.

Ended up watering and pulling a few weeds to take to the rabbits.i need to water the grass again. Might get rain later this week. At least my poor tomato plants are not getting soaked.
Got the outside frame of the side wall made for the coop. And made the second door for my guinea tractor. Got 2 scrap pieces of plywood to put in as partition between the wired in area and the enclosed with plywood area. That way they can stay in if they are cold or if it is raining. I need to make perches, a swing and put in the wood to hang the waterer from. They are still wasting feed so i am going to have to build a custom feeder. They waste more than they eat. Tomorrow i will go buy wheels and roofing metal. So excited to see it coming together!

actually I am going to cheat I found a metal shed 10 x 14 on the home depot site so am picking it up to replace my main coop adding a few widows and vents and a walk door not the double shown.. as they are accustomed to a dirt floor I will not put the floor in I use deep litter.
