What did you do in the garden today?

Couldn't get on yesterday....
Worked up pears and delivered buckets to some elderly neighbor's.
We brought Susie the calf home yesterday morning to care for her here. Momma cow was down and unable to get up. Wish the neighbor had put her down...she died this afternoon. He kept hoping she would get better because she would eat and drink water. I hated to think she suffered. Susie is adjusting and taking to the bottle, eats creep and does graze grass. She will be fine.

I'm going to have to make some difficult decisions....about options.
Neurologist is sending me for nerve testing in my arms to rule out carple tunnel before discussing degenerative disc solutions. I've put off fusion and plates with screws in my neck hoping new technology would be developed. I have four bad discs in my neck. Medicare won't pay for disc replacement due to cost although FDA has approved a synthetic replacement in 2012 and as od 2014 allows two to be done in one surgery. I've heard bad things about mobility and stress on discs above and below fused sites.
Keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

Picked tomatoes and okra today.

Don't do it I have the spinal column closing on my neck lot's want to look not saying they could or would fix but want to look NO WAY

My husband had discs fused in his neck with titanium rod. It limits the flexibility of his neck but does not cause him pain any more. I had carpal tunnel surgery on both wrists, worked out really well for me.
I hope you find the solution you need.:hugs

I have mild-moderate scoliosis (not diagnosed until I was 30), degenerative disc/joint. Zero intact lumbar discs, some going/gone thoracic and cervical spine. I'm putting off surgery as long as possible, but then I'm either allergic or overly sensitive to every drug imaginable and afraid I'll be over medicated to death. I was turned down for one of the studies on the prosthetic discs for that very reason. Ironic, since I was a neuro and neuro research nurse coordinator for so long. Spinal injections of lidocaine and cortisone helped me a lot in the past. And trust me, I had to be pretty desperate to go for getting them. Wrong end of the needle for me.

My dad had fusion of his lumbar and thoracic spine just at and above the waist. Being well over 6 feet, he said the fusion didn't bother him much unless he was needing to climb under and into tight places, like the old VWs and sand rails he messed with. He built himself a lift and fixed that problem. He seldom complained of back pain after his surgery. Worked great for him. But the neck/cervical spine is whole lot different. And I don't see Medicare coverage getting any better anytime soon, not in this economic climate. I hope I'm wrong on that.

Fingers crossed it's nerve entrapment and treatable without spinal fusion. Maybe TENS unit or something like gabapentin/Neurontin might help? Decompression therapy? Hyperbaric? Just throwing things out there, since I don't know your particulars. I did coordinate our clinic's research study of Neurontin long ago, and wasn't impressed with it's efficacy on what we were studying, but it seems it helped some folks in certain situations. By now, there are other related drugs that might be of use to you. Can't hurt to ask your doc?

Be blessed and be well. I'll be thinking of you. :hugs

Wet wet wet. More showers this morning but tapering off. HE and I discussed putting HC over ALL the upper portion of the henhouse walls, just to get it useable NOW. We can go back and add solid wood siding by winter. I think yes, we can modify our plans and still have what we need. Between just us two, it's taking longer than he had planned. Still discussing.

Keeping the biddies in for the morning pending showers passing. No need to water garden! Harvested cukes and another cantaloupe, okra and a couple more tomatoes. Picked some bolted greens for biddies. Found a tiny hornworm for them too. Killed a squadron of baby squash bugs hanging out on the underside of one of the small cantaloupe. Second group I've found this year. Keeping my eyes sharp for eggs too.

Off to measure and cut HC and decide exactly what we are going to do. Maybe the girls will be spending the night in their new digs! :fl

NanaKat, I will definitely keep you in my prayers. So sorry to hear about your condition - it sounds really painful. I hope things work out well for you.

I haven't been able to comment for a day or two because Backyard Chickens left a message for me that I didn't have a correct email address listed, and therefore my commenting privileges were suspended. Well that's news to me because it's the same email address I've had for years and nothing has changed! Hubs was able to get me back in their good graces, though, and now I'm able to comment again.:clap I still don't even understand what happened!

Anyway, it's been very rainy, so not much done outside. This weekend is supposed to be nicer, so I hope to get outside and get some work done!
