What did you do in the garden today?

They should not cross pollinate between species (pepo vs moschata).

It will not produce viable seed. It may set fruit that has paper thin seeds. If you are concerned for seed saving you are safe.
See - this is what google said! No it can't, yes it can. LOL. @jerryse I was hoping you'd chime in & this is what I'm hoping for - I'd love for it to set fruit & I will not be saving seeds. I'll be hand pollinating & it would be easier if I could use flowers from both for that as I can't really tell the plants apart & have no idea which one is which. :lau
Japanese beetles have arrived, wish I could find something that works better than neem oil.
I have used the traps for the last few years. Some people hate them saying they attract more but for me they have worked well. They may attract more, but they end up dead in the traps & not on my plants so I'm ok with it.

I picked (and ate) a strawberry today. Tied up some squash & maters. I have tons of female flowers on the cukes, but no males. & tons of males on the squash, but no females. Won't be long till harvesting now!

I also have hereditary high cholesterol & take the lowest dose statin, so does DH. All of mine & his siblings have it too. My cardiologist is happy to let me do testing of eating certain foods & stuff, but we eat low carb anyway & he said if that didn't help nothing would food wise so I haven't bothered.

My bush bean leaves look a little yellow, I need to feed them I guess but I need them to dry out a little after 3.5 inches of rain.

I got 14 tomato plants pruned and tied to their supports. There's still a pair of Roma tomato plants I need to support somehow. I'll probably drive a couple of T-posts into the ground for them.

I don't know if it's a fluke or not, but a tomato plant I buried a whole egg underneath is about twice as big as its neighbor, the same tomato variety (Stupice), about 16 inches away. Maybe I'll amend the other tomatoes with eggs and see what happens.

The poppies are setting buds. Never grew them so not sure when the blooms will open up.

@Acre4Me , yeah, I'm not impressed with the cornstarch carrot planting method either. Some of the seeds sprouted, but not enough. I'll go back to just planting carrot seeds by hand next time, then watering them in and covering with a board until they sprout. That's always worked well in the past, and it's a lot less trouble.

Got home from work about 8ish, after 2 hours of traffic. Near the ocean & bay we get crazy summer traffic. It was so hot again today. At work their a/c unit works well, & it said outside temperature was 102 yesterday & 100 today. I don't know if that's accurate but it sure felt like it.
I don't like getting in so late. Can't really let everyone out for that short of a time before dusk.

I am watering a bone dry garden now & I collected eggs. These are 2 Australorp eggs...tiny one is from a senior, sweet ole mama tries, bless her little heart. ❤️

Tomatoes, basil & marigolds are struggling with this heat.

In the early 80s a young plant breeder said he was going to solve the squash vine Boer problem by crossing Moschata into Peppo. I tried it hand pollinating. Got a squash with paper thin seed.

Apparently they did have a tornado touch down in New Hampshire yesterday around 5 pm @Sueby. We were under a tornado watch all day but nothing happened. A few rumbles of thunder and some sprinkles. I feel lucky.
Oh wow. Glad we got out of NH early!
