What did you do in the garden today?

I meant to answer about Chaste trees! They reseeded a zillion plants in my mothers yard in south central Texas. Needed yearly pruning of suckers and side shoots. Was very wide, like a pomegranate. Bees loved it. Fragrant and pretty blooms. Did ok during drought. Died back during the coldest winters but came back from the roots. Don't let seedlings get too big before removing them or you'll be fighting them forever.

Maybe a vine would work? Bougainvillea is lovely and drought tolerant once established. Grapes too. Might be something for your area that could work.
Except Bougainvilla grows a lot and needs pruned. I thought she wanted low maintenance. My husband was always hacking ours back so it rarely bloomed.

Do you plant your lettuce and Kayle directly into the soil or do you start plants and then plants the babies?

I will plant it directly. It's along the inside of the front garden fence, so more apt to get watered as needed. I will then transplant from that area into the green house this fall when the weather gets colder. Hopefully, I'll have greens until Christmas from that planting.

Wow, chatty forum, used to one that only has a couple of posts a day at most. I forgot this is nation wide, lol. Attached photo of entire space for whoever it was that commented on work. We have a dog, a turtle and two rats as well as four kids. I only work part time outside of home so that helps too. This is prior to the hoop house going up, you can see the first bow.

When i get onto a forum , it gets chatty fast:lau. Love your set up! Do you have problems with deer or rabbits?

After all of the moaning and groaning about my borer infested delicata plants last week, guess what I found. They are producing! Now we wait and see if any mature before my plants die, instead of pulling them out. If I get any, I'm taking pictures. The rainstorm that I was praising Mother Nature for knocked over an entire cage of cucumbers. A few snapped clean off from the base, but some most might make it. Stink bugs are all over the tomatoes poking holes in the fruit, but we're still getting some nice ones. I did a green bean experiment to see the difference between the performance of bush vs. pole for the fall season. My bush beans are surprisingly prostrate, and both types are now in bloom, although I'm seeing some tiny beans forming on the bush type now.
