What did you do in the garden today?

Brown lentils right
Yes, brown lentils. I know there are other kinds/colors, but those are the only ones I see in the store.

One other note: This soup gets thicker as it sits in the fridge. I add some water when I reheat it.

I could add more liquid when it cook it, but the storage container I have is really full, even after I have a big bowl when it's ready. I can't help myself. It's delicious.

Thanks! Sounds so yummy and I have some bone broth in the pantry so I’m trying it that way.

I had to order red lentils, about a dollar per pound cheaper that way, but they wouldn’t hold up to the IP I think. I started with the red lentils because they don’t have a really strong flavor, but I’m gradually introducing the man to more colors lol.

Rain maybe subsiding a bit today. I picked a pound of black turtle beans. They’re drying on the DR table.

I picked a bag of locusts off my okra and gave to the chickens. They’ve almost stripped the okra but they will spring back. Those suckers dive bomb me when I’m weed eating!!
I think my snake bean is finally turning. Will be interesting to see if it really tastes like tomato paste

It was 106 yesterday. A lot of my garden is pretty pissed off about this heat wave. Looks like it'll only be in the mid 90s today. I harvested a bunch of tomatoes yesterday morning and cut down a few plants that are done for the season.

I need to start seeds. My cabinet project set me back on that task.

Tomatoes! Probably another 8 quarts. I picked some a little early to protect them from getting destroyed by yesterday's heat.

Bought about 50lbs of peaches (only spent about $28). Sooooo….. you can throw me any recipes for canning. Mostly interested in sliced peaches in syrup, but wondering if I can add any spice or flavoring? @WthrLady the speckle pear recipe with honey, cinnamon, vanilla was great. Wonder if I should just try that, but with peaches (or maybe cinnamon vanilla (no honey) so peach flavor shines).

I’ve already made 7 Qts of peach pie filling, and 12 pints of peach rum sauce (it’s peaches, sugar, brown sugar, and lemon peel). We’ve made the peach rum sauce before -a little goes a long way on ice cream, yogurt, pancakes.

Peach pie filling: I used white and yellow peaches for this batch. They look pretty.

In garden news, the winter squash are producing, but looks like the seed packet was mixed with an oops seed. All of the squash are like the round green one, only one odd gree/yellow one in the entire section.

eating hot peppers help me with stiff neck.
Might be how ya slept? I use a very flat pillow or at times no pillow but will roll a hand towel up & put in the crook of neck for sleeping. Those big pillows can be nice if ya eat soup while watching tv in bed & need propping up, but they're not good for sleeping. If ya tilt the head up too much it's bad. The chin should not be practically touching the chest, a recipe for wicked neck & headache, for me anyway. Too much looking down at phone or sitting in a waiting room with the darn cold air blowing down on neck is awful too.

Strange weather, but so far the garden is still doing well. I still see some bagworms & I've plucked over 300 of those little jerks already, going after evergreens & apple trees, even the new peach tree. 😠

We went from dry 100 degree days to humid 100 degrees days 🥵 , drought then wet, not really rainy, just drizzly & steambath-like. Ugh, skin & hair feel so gross every day!
😝 A shower feels awesome, then dry clothing! My feet are like daily, damp prunes anymore. I take a tote bag with a complete change of clothes & shoes so I am less nasty going to the chiropractor after work.

I see lots of mushrooms sprouting up, in garden, yard & in potted plants. Last night I cut the grass before dusk as it was cooler & I had to keep dodging toads lol. We've never had this many toads before. Eat the skeeters up you little cuties! They are all over the garden & yard & there is a group that will congregate at the hose bib area, they've learned to hop around & set off the motion light to draw in more bugs. 🐸 Go for it dudes!

This is the 1st year I've had So Much squash & zucchini that I'm giving some to chickens & giving some away. The yellow squash is so delicious! 😋 It tastes buttery before I even add the butter. I can have a big bowl steamed with butter every night, love it! ❤️

This guy found that bread dough slurry attracts and drowns slug in his home-made slug trap. I think it's a good idea, but how do they drown? Why would the slugs submerge themselves in the liquid?
I saw the longest slug ever, sliming it's way up the side of the chicken coop. It was already way up high, out of my reach. It was about 7 inches long! How did that thing get by the chickens? 🤔
