What did you do in the garden today?

I have the Braun MQ505 & I absolutely HATE it. It has no power & get so hot. I use the thing all the time, one of these days I'm going to just get another. I hate to be wasteful but my arthritic hand can't hold onto it long enough to make soup!
I'm leaning towards the Vitamix one; though I wish the bell didn't have plastic on it. I looked at the Bamix one. But I have two Vitamix blenders, one from like 1975 that has a stainless pitcher with a spout on the bottom; and one that I got as a refurbished 14 years ago. Both work perfectly and I use them both plenty often enough. The "vintage" one was given to me by my best friend, it was her moms. Her mom may still have more than one blender. Ha! I noticed that All-Clad makes one but I haven't looked at it too closely since it's made in China.

I like that Oster; but I'm concerned that the shaft isn't long enough to do my full 8 quart batches of sauce. @igorsMistress Have you used it on a full, tall, stock pot?

350W is pretty substantial though. I found a smaller 250W one on Amazon. The 350W one is at my local Walfart. Though again, made in China has me on the fence. Though the price is tempting since I've never had one.

The Vitamix is a crazy 625W, but it has 5 speeds so it's tamer at the lower settings.

ANYWAY.

Planted some beets. It's really hot outside... so we haven't been very productive out there. I'll get photos when it cools off a bit. I put the cucumber and squash seedlings outside in the shade. No reason to keep those in the house. Removing my mulch to get the seeds started for those beets was a little more challenging than I thought it would be.

Carrots will go in this evening if I can get around to it.

You’d have to do it in batches I’m sure. I like it because it’s a powerful blender and it has lasted a long time for me. Like at least five years and I use it a lot.

I bought an immersion blender 20 years ago and it's sitting in the cabinet, still unused. I think it's a Sunbeam. There's an unused electric knife sitting right next to it. I should probably try them out sometime.

I watered the patch of fall seedlings. Bok choi, carrots and collards are sprouting. Red kale is not, probably because the seeds are over 3 years old. I have two kale plants in the garden making seeds for the next couple of years.

I pruned almost half the growth from a volunteer Roma tomato plant that's growing next to my zinnia bed because it was too big and getting in the way. I don't really need the plant and its tomatoes, but it came up on its own so I decided to let it do its thing. I saved four of the largest green tomatoes, might try frying them.

Update on the green beans I picked this morning:

Got 'em all blanched, frozen on sheet pans and transferred to gallon freezer bags. Two gallons are in the chest freezer for the coming winter, and there are more to come.

Cleaned all the aronia berries tonight. Started cooking them in water before I realized you are NOT supposed to do that because it makes them more astringent. I pulled them off when they were a little bit hot. Put them in the blender to process and now chilling overnight before I strain the juice tomorrow. I only had room in the fridge for half the berries/puree so I'm freezing the rest of the berries until I have room & time to process them.

Still haven't decided if I want to make jelly, syrup, or just juice with them...

DS and I planted two rows of purple carrots. I will need to move the chard to plant more. I didn't have time to move them today. So only the beets went in and the carrots. This weekend I'll plant out the late summer squash seedlings, cucumbers, and direct sow the peas. Trying not to be overly ambitious, and not forget about the onions and garlic that will need to go in, plus the lettuce, and then potatoes in the spring.

I didn't get any photos today. Though I'm sure it'll look the same tomorrow. 😂 Assuming my neighbors cat doesn't doodoo in my freshly sown bed..... 🥴
