What did you do in the garden today?

Baby goats (4 months old) have discovered delicious green bean plants

Even better when they are already picked! 🙄

Mom goats were sold to a person who has a few other goats of the same breed. She has 2.5 acres fenced and a small pond, so they should be pretty happy there.

Garden is getting watered today. I’ll be watering trees again -it’s really dry here, as is typical for August. Tomatoes and tomatillos are producing well. Carrots in abundance. Winter squash is also doing well, although one variety hasn’t produced much, but the squash are on the larger side. It’s a new to me variety and won’t get planted again unless it’s amazing.

Maybe today I’ll finally get a few fall things planted. It’s been really busy, so I need to get mustard, beets, spinach in the ground!

Have you tried hand pollinating? I've had great success doing this.
I considered hand pollinating but didn't. It seems like the first few female blossoms don't pollinate, then they start kicking into gear. Whenever it's warm enough I see bumblebees in the flowers.

For two pounds I did 1.5 Tbsp of salt. 6 Tbsp of sugar, I did half light brown and half granulated cane. 6 cloves of garlic.
Thanks. I'm going to follow the instructions on this article:
https://peppergeek.com/fermented-hot-sauce/

I'm going to wait until the jalapenos in my garden are big enough to use, then add them to some Hatch chili peppers. Probably throw in a chopped carrot and some onion and garlic too.

Thank you I Try to be proactive with his care.
He is so nice easy going he wont be.:lau
Yeah, Igor is the same. I had to tell the doc about an issue he was having, turned out he has torn a tendon in his ankle and needed surgery…20 years after it happened. SMH.

I hope the docs get things figured out and fixed for your guy!

I hope your DH recovers soon @pennyJo1960. Busy day continues. I picked about 7 pounds of peaches and an okra pod after my chiropractor appointment. Then I toasted okra slices before freezing. Getting ready to toss my third load of laundry in the washer. After that and some dishwashing I will work on trimming the grass with the weed whacker. The grass is growing so fast like it’s early Spring. It looks like Thursday is a good day to make my first batch of peach preserves.

If they make fruit, great! If not, I'm going to change my strategies next year.
What will you do differently next year?

I didn't plant any winter squash this year, as last year's was so disappointing. And the year before that. And the year before that.

I used to get 80-90(!!) butternut squash in my squash patch.

Afternoon all. It’s toasty here today, but this morning was pleasant before the sun came up. We’re back to 110 today and next weekend with 109 in between. I wet down the bedding in the coop early this morning so the little roo is in there turning it all over for me. Then I came in and made squash fritters and tossed some leftover shrimp in a chipotle lime sauce for dinner. I was considering warming them on the BBQ but it’s just so darn hot. We’ll see.
