What did you do in the garden today?

Once the leaves get big, they should fruit. Have you tried Calcium Carbine? I drop around six pieces in the hole around the top leaves and drizzle water a little at a time to make a mist or fog. After that it takes a month or two for it to flower. I also, had to apply a fruiting or flowering type fertilizer to support the flowering or fruiting stage. However, on my latest attempt on 4 plants only 2 flowered, probably because I put too much water and washed it out. I tried again on the 2 that didn't flower and one of them just started to flower. I'll give the last one a week or two before trying again.
I bought this can from Amazon, it really works.

I saw this video and ordered the calcium carbide from amazon. The can of calcium carbide that I received were already broken into small pieces, so all I had to do is put the small pieces on the plant. The second video uses no chemicals, and maybe a better solution, since it doesn't burn the plant leaves like calcium carbide and can be applied more often. I will try banana water with my last plant.

I don't think I'll bother with the borage again, not my favorite, it wasn't pushy enough so it succumbed to the weeds.

I planted borage once. I'll have it forever, the way it reseeds itself.

Actually, that's fine by me. I ended up with a bushy row of borage next to the grapes, and the honey bees LOVE it! Reason enough for me to grow from now on.

Nice... I wish I had seen this earlier in the summer! After this Hurricane blows through, I'll try it with the bananas. I probably have less than 2 months before it gets too cold though so if I can get it to flower I'll have to let it mature inside the house when I bring them in for the winter. I hope that doesn't cause it to drop the bloom.

Dry here too, finally. They are now saying they'll be issuing a drought monitor this week. How quickly we went from sopping wet to too dry.

I'm headed out to a music festival with my girlfriends so I watered the garden really well. Thinned the carrots. Got some fish emulsion in the greens Greenstalk. Weeded a ton yesterday.

I need to start collecting zinnia & cosmos seeds when I get back. My nasturtiums have already reseeded themselves & are looking good. I don't think I'll bother with the borage again, not my favorite, it wasn't pushy enough so it succumbed to the weeds.

I've had the same experience with borage. I've planted it every season from seed for the past 4 years. It always germinates but is dead by midsummer no matter what I do.

Question on canned pickles. I have dill and bread and butter pickles that are 2 to 2 1/2 years old. I have a storage cabinet in the basement thatI put my home canned goods in. The pickles look fine. I hate to toss them. Thoughts?

I received a response from Jeff at Ed Hume seeds regarding my yellow fruited Black Krim tomato plant.

Black Krim is an open pollinated tomato, so it will breed true if it is grown in isolation from other tomatoes. Seems likely this is the result of cross pollination. It would be interesting to see if the yellow tomato breeds true. It likely wouldn't if it is an accidental hybrid.Jeff

Eat them. They are fine.

Went and bought a bunch of deck boards. Resurfacing the deck. 25 plus years. Had DW spot me backing the trailer up the driveway. Can you say stress. Got it done.

This year's Big Project ($$$$and maybe a 5th$) is redoing the bathroom. I know hubby wants to do a wrap around porch, so that maybe next year's Big Project.

His BPs cost lots of $. Mine are more sweat equity and time, ie, garden.
