What did you do in the garden today?

I picked a small fraction of the chard that is out there. It made 2 quart ziploc bags of stem pieces and 5 quart bags of leaves.
:th
I also have 6-7 zucchini in the fridge to make zoodles. The two bushes are still going strong! I'm going to let one of them get old and ripe and save the seed.

I saved some seed from my red not-hot jalapenos. The made a lot more peppers than my bell pepper plants. Tasty and sweet when they turned red, too!

Picked more tomatoes & some corn after work. It was warm & sunny earlier but at 4pm it was very cloudy, breezy & there was a nip blowing in from the northeast. I actually put on a flannel & then a hoodie. I'm washing & crating eggs & blanching corn cobs to freeze.

Most of the corn is gorgeous but 1 ear came out a bit funky. Here's a pic...a couple of oddly shaped kernels. Maybe I should invest in a Geiger counter 🤔. I'm Not blanching that weird ear...Nope.

I finally did some thing I went in there with a Weedwhacker and made a pass through so I can walk around the jungle that used to be a garden. This was a tough year. I was getting over cancer surgery and the garden was the last thing on the list of must be dones. i’m hoping to do better next year. got about 1/3 weed whacked today.
Fighting cancer is brutal. I give you a lot of credit even "thinking" of the weed whacker! But you actually ran that bugger?! Wow, you are truly a determined gardener. I recall feeling so weak, but my entire yard was looking terribly neglected & that bothered me. So I figured I could sit on a stool & weed that way, plus enjoy the fresh air, flowers, raspberries, etc. After just 15 minutes I was drenched in sweat & shaking so badly, I was barely able to crawl back to the front door a mere 20 feet away. I decided to let the weeds go that summer.

wait wait no no don’t throw those out. That’s actually very special delicious delicacy part of corn. I forget what it’s called. I’ll have to look it up, but you are blessed to have gotten some.

Wow, my goodness, I am really shocked! I was blessed with corn smut?! 😆 I definitely learned something new here. Well...I already tossed those odd kernels into the trash though & the chickens enjoyed that ear. 😳 I guess I am officially a dingbat for doing so. Oh well...I might get more, there are several more ears of corn growing. I planted all corn the same day, but you'd never know it.

Funny how it's been such a dry summer & that stuff requires more precipitation...I guess my watering was just right.
