What did you do in the garden today?

Again, call and raise hell. Doesn't matter if it's right of way. They are required to leave it in the same or similar condition. Not leave it torn up....
It is extremely tiring to fight with people and companies all the time just to do the right thing... life feels like a constant uphill battle just to get people/businesses to treat others the way they'd like treated. 😢

Well, I can’t imagine Ohio is in the extreme drought it was a week ago- lots of rain, a period of winds, from Helene. My area got light to moderate rain all day yesterday continuing today, which is perfect for the ground and remaining garden.

Why do peas seem to take forever to grow? They are experiencing great weather for peas…but all 4 varieties are taking a long time to grow.

I mapped out the garden for next year because I need to start prepping for the garlic to go in.

I totally forgot about doing that. Garlic goes into the ground next month so I need to prep a spot for them too. I'll have to get dirty and sift some chicken run fertilzer.
I need to think about where to plant garlic too. And the multiplier onions. I have marked October 15th as "plant garlic." :)

I need to go pick some last cucamelons and maybe make pickles. And save some seeds too. The seed saving technique for them is similar to tomatoes.

I think of most seed saving methods as either "wet" (tomatoes) or "dry" (peas/beans/flowers). I bought the book, The Seed Garden, and it has the information for just about anything I'd care to grow.

I need to carefully harvest the drying kale seedpods from the plants. I touched the pods yesterday and one split open, scattering its seeds.

I'll have plenty of zinnia and marigold flower heads to save too. I try to get some from each color of zinnia.

One of the marigold plants from my saved seeds must have reverted to its parent traits. It's tall and lanky compared to the others which are short and bushy (French marigolds, I think). I'll save seeds from both.

Good morning gardeners. Yesterday was busy but I did manage to clean up the winter squash bed then added 2 more 4 foot rows of lettuce today. Yesterday I cooked up the green tomatoes into a salsa verde. I canned 5 half pint jars of it. After I planted the lettuce I thinned the carrots and Brussel sprouts. I have 10 Brussel sprout plants and I transplanted some to give them more space. Fingers crossed they survive. All of my ripe San Marzano tomatoes are in the freezer. The plan is to turn them into sauce then can. That and turning some of the apples into sauce is on my “to do” list for the coming week. The littles are getting better on the egg production. Four of the six made eggs yesterday. Best wishes for your DH’s hand to heal as fast as possible @igorsMistress. My sincere condolences to anyone affected by Helene.

So kale is like arugula? I will have to keep that in mind, I got some kale seeds to grow next year.

I saved seeds from a "Crackerjack" marigold few years ago. The plants are still tall, like Crackerjack, but there is some variation in the form of the flower.
I got some marigold seeds too, from one of my seed libraries (trying to build in more pest control for my veggies), it will be interesting to see what comes up.
