What did you do in the garden today?

43 This morning, 85 today. The house is open now, but the AC will be on later as we'll be in the mid 90s this weekend. The AC also works in combination with the air scrubbers and with harvest in full swing, we need the scrubbers.
Feather are everywhere.
I forgot to post the swallows leaving. It's been almost 3.5 weeks and all but the non-migratory sparrows have left.
The grackles are gathering, but I have yet to see geese or ducks.
Pelicans have passed through already though.

I haven't seen a humming bird in almost a week.
The last 10 qts of tomato puree are simmering on the stove, almost 3 weeks late. Weird year.

Building a new UPS/FedEx/USPS drop box today, so I better get to it.
Have a good day all.

My potatoes finished curing so I sorted through them. Damaged and littles to eat soon, greened and sprouting for planting and the nice ones spread out in boxes to store in the cool, dark shop building.

I'll have around a dozen whole potatoes to plant, which'll be plenty. I'm trying something new, and will plant the potatoes in the garden later this month.

Annnnd I've managed to anger a wasp. Sigh.
They're quick to anger this time of year.
Ah yes. We have had a surge of yellow jacket activity in our area. They are angry, thirsty and looking for protein. This has been the longest season for them here and the most prolific. Usually they are scarce by now. Not this year.

I went to the garden to look at stuff a little bit ago. My zucchini I planted, only one of them is growing well. The others are.... Sad. I think it may be gophers, but I haven't checked for tunnels yet. Tooooo hot.

Thinking you have a good plan. If it's deep underground, they shouldn't freeze. I get volunteer potatoes every year. You? They seem to do the best, unless the voles get to them. They are destructive to potatoes, which is why I have to dig mine up instead of just letting them store in the ground. Even then, some of mine got eaten.
