What did you do in the garden today?

When I see any leaves getting holes like Swiss cheese, it is usually from an insect. I've caught some in action, worms, crickets, leaf eater bugs, etc. My chickens aren't as precise, they'll grab, pull, rip a leaf off & scarf it down, leaving either a partial half leaf, a leaf with a chunk gone, or no leaf at all if it was tasty.
I had put sluggo down, but it must be some other insect. I sure can tell when a chook has been there, not only do they eat, but they scratch and pull out the plants in the process.

Some of my plants (brassicas mainly) get lots of small holes chewed into the leaves. I'm pretty sure it's earwigs. Lots of them hiding in the wood chip mulch. I put down Sluggo Plus, which is designed to kill earwigs too. And it seems to help.

Today was cider pressing. We only got 6 gallons this year. Poor apple set, my big Spartan tree only has what I can count on fingers and toes. Also processed the last of the apples to make pie filling. Some I had tried to can went to mush, so cooked it down and used it for the liquid part of this filling. (Different apples). Probably picked the last two zucchini yesterday. Caught chicken in the act of nearly coming over the fence, so she got sprayed with the hose.

Morning. I have good news. About 6 months ago I developed neuropathy in my toes due to diabetes. Doctor prescribed gabapentin. Did not help and the list of side effects was scary. I quit taking it. I recently saw a YouTube video about vitamin B1 helping neuropathy. Bought some Friday and have been taking it. My neuropathy is almost gone. Worked fast.
Wow that is wonderful!!!

I was prescribed gabapentin for neuropathy. Mine was chemo related. That is a nasty medicine. I tried it on 2 separate occasions. Both times, I had constipation, muscle spasms like I've never had before & migraines. Never again.

bought some flowers and planting them outside the garden fence. will put hyacinth, iris and tulip onions as well. I want to see flowers in front of my house all year around.
Me too! I have just dug up and seperated a large clump of agapanthus to spead around, relocated several flowering bulb grasses and am putting in cactus dahlias, kangaroo paw, and every salvia I can get my hands on in an effort to make a wildy colourful space to sit and stare at.

Still picking tomatoes & lots of little cherry tomatoes, especially. They're so delicious 😋. Tonight we had pasta & also chopped up a fresh plate of Plum tomatoes with basil from the garden. The shorter days have the leaves & stems looking spindley so it makes me sad to see them fading away. Despite the drought, this was a very good tomato year!

It was so hot the other day, we were sweating in shorts & t-shirts, yet today clouds rolled in, no rain, but it was windy & chilly. We have some trees where leaves are starting to change color, mostly Maple trees, but most trees are still green, just losing green leaves.
Ya never know what to expect for October here. We've had October's in the 70s & other years in the 40s.

My last Bell pepper plant is suddenly rebounding but the cucumbers have had it.

So many hawks are here daily. My flock is safe but they sure raise a raucous when they see hawks. I saw a Kestrel. They're so cute, mini falcons. This one looked at me & bobbed it's head, made me laugh...reminded me of a baby bird bobbing it's head when the parents feed it.

Everyone is molting, feathers galore. I opened the pigeon loft door & wind blew in...felt like I was inside of a snow globe with the feathers flying around like snowflakes. 😆
