What did you do in the garden today?

Just FYI mice love to eat PEX. Don't know what your mouse load is but I have a friend who is a plumber & he won't use it anymore because the mice are eating it, we had this discussion just 2 weeks ago. My neighbor 2 doors down had a mouse chew through the pex in their upstairs bathroom in the middle of the night & it flooded the entire down stairs. Anyway, just something to think of...
I've read that before and considered the risk. My house is plumbed with plastic pipe now (polybutylene) and mice haven't bothered it in 30 years, so I think the PEX will be safe.

I have some poults in a too small pen. I was going to add some bedding and a little mouse was sitting there, I guess it was their pet. It didn't even run from me. I don't know how it didn't get stepped on or eaten. I guess they are too busy fighting to look down.
I easily grabbed it and gave it to the chickens.
My chickens got a mouse to snack on today too. One must have been hiding on my truck engine and got decapitated when I started the truck. One chicken got the head and the others are still fighting over the rest. Big mouse too, so big fun for the chickens!

We just used about 4' of PEX to plumb in the new shower, and the pipes/fittings are all still exposed. Is there anything I can wrap round the PEX to keep the mice from snacking on it? Like 1/4" hardware cloth, or something?

Never thought about them doing that. And yeah, we have mice.

I was cleaning out the overgrown back of the hoop house so I can plant my garlic tomorrow and came across a mouse/rat nest buried amongst the brush and tall grass. Not sure if it was still actively being used but I know those little (bleep) ate all my watermelons in the hoop house except 2 of them! :rant

I have millions of mice and pex pipes. mice have too many things to chew so they don't bother with pipes. just make sure they don't try to make nest near pipes. in that case they would chew them. my pipes are all exposed outside of the house (did it on purpose, in case of need I don't have to demolish the house). as there is no room for nests mice never chewed any.

Morning. I did not sleep well. Woke up a lot and dreams. Still tired. Hope coffee helps. Worked on truck some and found out why the belt broke. Alternator locked up. Ordered a new one, refurbished. Still about $3oo. Almost have the old one out. Got to move the power steering pump to get it out.

Enjoying coffee on this cold morning. Supposed to be 70 today. I’ll dig up the rest of the sweet potatoes!

When we dug up the first two of the five patches of sweet potatoes, clearly mice had been snacking on them. Only what was above the ground, so damage wasn’t too bad. I’m thinking I may plant some garlic in this area for the fumigation effects. I have A LOT of garlic, so I’ll be planting it where needed.

Weather looks like this for quite a few days! Then, next Thursday it gets close to freezing again. So back to covering plants at that time.

Next to garden work, plan to take some walks. Husband is doing well, but realized he might have overextended himself the DAY after surgery when he was helping me with sweet potatoes (no digging or lifting, just putting the potatoes into bins, brushing off dirt). Anyway, he’s laying down a lot more, being careful overall, and is spending more time with an ice pack. But, some people just can’t be told….have to experience “it” to make different decisions. 🤷🏻‍♀️
