What did you do in the garden today?

I fell behind. Been super busy! Monday was a holiday for the small human so we planted broccoli, cauliflower, beets, lettuce, and caraway. We also picked the rest of the tomatillos and I ripped the plants out. I could have got more... I don't need more... so out they came!

Tuesday I pressure canned tomatillo hot sauce and refried beans.

You can see here that work has been light. So I've been home! Working!

Yesterday I got out front....Oh I have a LONG road ahead... my yard looks like nobody lives here. But less so now I guess. I sharpened the flat blade shovel and cut the Bermuda grass away from the driveway. It's been over growing for the last..... 7 years. Now I can see the edge of the driveway again.

I fixed the drip line out front.... Oh my... I had turned it off for about 9 months (everything is dying because of that).... There were gopher chews in two sections and one emitter flew off and left a fountain.... Ehem... I decided to fix it all, finally. It took me less than 10 minutes... I'm so ashamed that it took me so long to actually get around to fixing. However I'm okay with it because I want to redo the whole front anyway. But dang. I could have had happy plants if I had gotten around to fixing that a while ago.

I started raking all of the dead weeds up out front. Murdered the palm tree that has sprung up and blocked the view out of my driveway ( I just cut the leaves off, you can't kill them they're immortal). I need to call the power company. I can't dig it out and it's right next to their pole. It needs to go.

Today I gave away a bunch of my seedlings to the neighbor. I fed the chickens some kale, I'm chasing a new gopher... My pumpkins I planted for my DS are finally making carving pumpkins! You know.... way too late. lol.

Tomorrow we pick up our new camping trailer/toy hauler. Pretty sure we'll need to ratchet down the suspension on our RZR to fit it, but it should fit! If it doesn't.. well, crap on a flipflop. I measured as good as I could!

My hands are bruised to the bone from cutting out the Bermuda grass with the shovel and using the weed whacker. I done messed up my hands. Again. I hurt a little bit. Seeing the bruises is more concerning... I've hurt before, but not seen bruising like I have. And by a little bit.... I mean owwies, I can't grip the steering wheel to turn the car around.... So I think I definitely overdid it. Again. I'm good at that. Sigh. I need to go cut wood.... Why do I do this to myself. My husband has a word for it. "dumb ..." you know the last three letters. He's not wrong. But I'm running out of days without rain... I need to get all this done!

I've read that the amaranth leaves are edible, and the seeds can be popped like popcorn. Cool!

And I just read that it's not a favorite food of deer, which is good. I'll be able to grow it without fencing it in.
Isn't pig weed a wild amaranth ?

So much to do and my body is complaining. I may need to ease up a bit. Right shoulder has been bothering me for a while. I have a GP appointment later this month. Start there to get a referral an Ortho DR. Insurance requirement. Mowed some leaves. Tried getting a serpentine belt for the truck. 3 tries and I think we have the right one. I may try to get it installed today if my body will let me. That belt runs everything and is a routing pain.

I took apart 3 greenstalks. Top tier of the first one...

Those nasty little critters (mice) were everywhere, jumping out & running. My dog was losing his mind. Totally grosses me out I grow food in the middle of their nasty nests. I wish I could find a way to keep them out of the garden. And my car. And my RV. & my tractor. & my mower...you get the point, lol.

I opened the car door the other day & there was one sitting there staring at me. :he

I was planning to work on prepping another raised bed for next year but it's spitting some rain out there. The job can wait, but I really want it to be done so I can focus on other things.

I have tons of work I need to do on my house this fall and winter. The biggest job is replumbing my entire house with new PEX pipe. I'm also painting the walls and installing new laminate flooring in two bedrooms, and springing for new carpet to be installed in the living and dining rooms and a bedroom. I'll give the walls a fresh coat of paint before the carpet goes in.

Just FYI mice love to eat PEX. Don't know what your mouse load is but I have a friend who is a plumber & he won't use it anymore because the mice are eating it, we had this discussion just 2 weeks ago. My neighbor 2 doors down had a mouse chew through the pex in their upstairs bathroom in the middle of the night & it flooded the entire down stairs. Anyway, just something to think of...

I have some poults in a too small pen. I was going to add some bedding and a little mouse was sitting there, I guess it was their pet. It didn't even run from me. I don't know how it didn't get stepped on or eaten. I guess they are too busy fighting to look down.
I easily grabbed it and gave it to the chickens.
