What did you do in the garden today?

My best friend in childhood lived in Queensland, right along the coast. Her family had a cattle farm just outside of Rockhampton. No.... I think it's fair to say that Oz is far more dangerous than where I grew up in the Midwestern US. šŸ˜‚ I can remember my friend being horrified that I actually had a pet snake (a non-venomous corn snake) and pet spiders as a kid. Given the propensity of those things to be deadly in Australia, I can understand why...
Yes I had lots of snakes I would find and play with as a kid.
here in my area of Illinois not much to kill you. Most deaths caused by animals are from deer jumping in front of cars....there's brown recluse spider though. I had what they thought was a bite but it wasn't a big deal. I do have a scar about an inch in diameter. Apparently the bite can be deadly.
A small rattlesnake is supposed to be in the area...but I have never seen one or know of anyone who seen one in the wild..

Are the pods drying up at all?
It's the end of the bean project. Not because they froze (and we did have frost last night), but because it's getting to the point where some time, we're going to get too cold for the two layers of sheets to protect the beans, and I'll lose them all.

So I pulled the plants and have them drying in the green house. We'll see if I get anything. I am totally AMAZED at how well the sheets protected the plants. The plants are mostly dead, but not because they froze. The leaves are yellow/brown, and the stems are drying up. The pods are still fleshy, so I don't know if the beans inside will ripen or not. We'll see.

Good luck in that case! I hope you get viable seeds off of them.

I had to re-mulch my garden boxes today after some hard winds. šŸ˜’

I live in the South now... We regularly deal with Brown Recluse, Black Widows, Copperheads, and Water Moccasins. But none of those are likely to kill you... Give you a bad day? Definitely, but not kill you like the critters in Australia which are some of the deadliest in the world.

Side note, 2 of my kids have had brown recluse bites. One turned necrotic which is what makes those bites dangerous. What started as a small bite ended up with an inch and a half gaping hole of dead tissue. My son had to see a doctor and have the dead tissue cut away and major antibiotics. My DH has been bitten several times by black widow spiders which are very common around our farm. Interestingly, every bite from those has been a dry bite with no actual venom injected.

Got my bulbs planted! I can even fit more!

OMG, I got to try my miniature blue popcorn that we grew this year. 10/10. I don't think I'll ever see popcorn the same way again. It is the best popcorn I've ever had. And if someone made this into kettle corn for me.... My life would be complete.
