What did you do in the garden today?

It was 21°F here. Has been about this cold every morning since Saturday.

I finally got almost all of my trees pruned and sprayed. My peach trees are fighting off kanker, so I lost a lot of growth. I need to get out there and collect all of my cuttings to send to the bin. Won't compost those. Not spraying last year and the wet year we had did a number on the trees.

Got all the potatoes planted.

While I was loosening the soil I found potatoes I missed from the surprise potatoes I got last season. 😂. They surprised me again! 5 more potatoes from peels in the compost. I planted them in another bed to see what comes of them.

All the strawberry crowns in (pretty sure at least half of them will die). All of the plants were out of dormancy when I opened the bags, many plants were already suffering from crown rot. Same with the asparagus, all out of dormancy. The hard freezes have done a number on the new growth. Even with covering them. If I lose them, so be it. I'll get seed and start that way.

I've been super sick for the last week so I haven't gotten much done. I still need to start seeds.

I ended up using 2 eggs, and 2 packages of cream cheese. Couldn't find the dried tomatoes, and I don't have a springform pan so I lined a pie plate with pepperoni.

Baked 50 minutes and it was done. Added fresh tomatoes and the rest of the cheese on top, and popped back in for another 10 minutes.

Now I have to wait, darn it.

2 packages cream cheese, room temperature
2 eggs
Dried peppers
Salt and pepper
Spinach
Pepperoni
Cheese

Fresh tomato

Simple, but now I have a base to work from for future yummy variations!

I decided not to wait. Old habits die hard, but there's no reason to keep it pretty when I'm the only one eating!

Is soooo good! I can see places for improvement. The extra egg probably wouldn't have hurt it, but not much improvement either. Maybe to make it firmer if I use heavier ingredients.

Most cheesecake recipes call for sour cream, and I think I'll try that later. Arugula and basil would be good flavors. The spinach adds texture, but I'll use more if I do this variation again.

And next time, no added salt. The pepperoni and cheese add plenty.

Me trying to decide the best time to put my cold season flower seeds (lisianthus, violas, stocks, etc) out in the flower beds. Last year I waited too far into the spring. I'd put them out now except we typically yo-yo between upper 40s & low 50s to upper 20s through February. I'm worried the warm up will cause sprouting only to be killed once it drops again. Last time I think I put them out in mid March. Maybe this time I'll try to target late February instead...
