What did you do in the garden today?

Yikes, I have heard it was the way to go from several sources. Wonder why yours got mold and mildew?

I have done this for years and yes mold will form but usually the failure comes from not removing the sprouts in a timely manner. Small roots penetrate the paper and are damaged when removed. I now use a polymer crystal I think it is called soil moist. Clear crystal that absorb water. I believe it is used in moisture control potting mix. I get it at a garden store in a small pack. A small pinch in a small Ziploc bag a little water seeds and date. This does not mold and the roots are not damaged when removed. I will have to see if I still have the package. I reuse it many times. When done germinating I just open the bag and let the crystals dry out.

I'm still confused as to what causes the mold. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to plant the seed in the paper towels in the ground?

Yes you can do that. I start them so I can put 1 plant to a pot and have no blanks or extras. I put many seeds in. It is also good for a germination test on older seed. Mold is everywhere. Spores are in the air or perhaps in the paper.

Hi, I've been gardening for years... I wanted to build a raised bed to go along with our chicken coop... My hubby had some boards in garage, so I went to work.. He told me after I was done that I needed to graduate from the little drill bf I build anything else.. Haha... I didn't think it was horrible for my first try.... Lol. I'm wanting to do chard, lettuce, and stuff like that for my chickens...
