What did you do in the garden today?

Eclipse just passed here. My bother in law and Dad work for Nasa so they had glasses, plus spares, so we got given a piece of appropriately rated welding glass. It was neat. Not in the totality, but still neat.

The chickens and bees started to go to bed. There was a noticeable drop in number of bees on the feeder and the chickens milled around the coop opening and got quiet like it was bedtime. Some even started to stand on the ramp up to the coop.

And now it's over. :p Unexciting.
I did get some more hot peppers today, though.

I have beans coming out my ears! I can't believe that two small packages of bush beans is producing this much. I had a very high germination rate, though. I haven't even started picking the pole beans yet. We're also swimming in okra. Ok, that sounds really uncomfortable, doesn't it? We're going to have to can some tonight. Most of our other stuff hasn't produced much at all. Might be too high nitrogen. Plus, bugs. Fed my hens a huge tomato hornworm this morning. Those are some scary caterpillars! I couldn't bring myself to touch it with my hands, just snipped off the stem it was on as it clacked at me. I'm a wuss sometimes.

I've had hornworms so big you could break them to harness or saddle! First two, my chicks just looked at them like they were wondering what breed the new additions to the flock were! :lau

I got all the ripe, and a lot of green tomatoes and am cutting out the spent vines. Between bugs and blight they are done. Makes lots of room for greens and more beans! I love fall gardening here. It's the most productive, and most comfortable.

Rain here most of the day - went out and tutted at the state of the garden. Had it all lovely but now it is a shocking state.... We have had building work going on all of the summer and so I have not been able to get to much of the garden. So I am now taking time to see what is "left!" -lol I have loads and loads of Styrofoam balls everywhere from inside the walls of the house. So I now have a major project as I have to clear all of the beds and redo them with top soil and compost and then will put in plants I need to find new homes for and finally re do the wood bark..... Ohhh well lots to think on. I am surprised to say I still managed Cabbages and peas and lots of fruit this year... The greenhouses are packed with Chile's, Aubergines, and tomato.... Also the grape vine has sooo much fruit on it - massive amounts. So apart from taking stock and planning nothing more was done today.... Too tired and the large extension is looming over what was once the beautiful decking and sitting area????? Ummmmm what to do with it now???? It will be ok by next year!!!! lots of rain and no sky to wonder at here!
