What did you do in the garden today?

Interesting. So you cultivate dandelions? I have a bunch of dandelion seeds in the fridge that I saved last summer with plans to plant sometime in the future. Do you have any dandelion growing tips?

I haven't been as successful as I'd like when it comes to dandelions. In Indiana where I grew up, the dandelions are big and beautiful. When we visit the in-laws each summer, I always collected gallon ziploc bags of dandelion seeds to bring them back home. We have dandelions here in Arkansas but they are tiny and sparse. For the past 3 years I've been trying to seed from the Indiana seed.

1. The first year I put out the dandelion seed right when we came back to Arkansas. Nothing ever grew. Then I realized they need cold stratification.

2. The 2nd year (last year) I put seed out at the very beginning of winter to overwinter. I did get a couple of seeds to grow but they are nowhere near the big, beautiful flowers I saw in Indiana. Still small although bigger than the native dandelions here.

3. This year I've kept the seeds in the refrigerator since last summer. Going to put them out tomorrow since the temps for the next 10 days will be between 30 - 50 degrees and we are expecting a good amount of rain.

We'll see if that helps germination.

A friend gifted me those palm trees, he said they were about 4 feet high, when I picked them up 😮 did I mention my husband is not a fan of gardening or green plants?! 🫣 I managed to regift 1 date palm and intend to plant the other one, they can withstand temperatures up to -7 C 🙏🏻

I wish I was near to take such a gift!

I tried dandelions with no luck. it seems they cannot survive summer heat and drought here. I guess they don't like alkaline soil either.

The great horned owl arrived for the season last night and the bald eagles arrived en masse today. I counted 27 in the air at one time over the lake today, and there were more on the ice - fishing.
Both, especially GHO, causes problems for me. Along with the hawks.
I was so happy when the eagles first started showing up.
