What did you do in the garden today?

Be careful what you wish for 😅 I was envious of all you snow, someone heard me and delivered a big pile of it here 🤪 have been shoveling snow the last 2.5 hrs. 😓 just to clear my driveway, I will see if I can get out of bed tomorrow 🤷🏻‍♀️

It’s cool, mostly cloudy and we got a few drops of rain. I fertilized the veggies and succulents today, also the rosemary and sage. There’s some sunshine in my immediate vicinity so I’m sending Igor for feed while I start work on the shed. I need things in there and let it get out of hand.

I'm building a temporary coop/run in the heated shop today and moving the flock in there tonight.
Our temps are only going to make it from 0-5'F for HIGHS every day for the next week, PLUS it will be damp. Nights will be deep into the negative numbers. At least the shop is at 40-45'.
I just can't sleep knowing they're out in their run and coop working so hard to stay warm.
My girls are getting older and it's really hard on them when it's for more than a few days. This will be week TWO of this Arctic crap.

I walked down into my garden this morning, the ground sunk down as my feet touch it.......

Grass is overgrown, I just mowed the lawn less than 7 days ago.
I want to flat out my whole backyard and cement them all as I get allergy from tall grass, and spiderwebs are everywhere, then these little things ..insects bite on me.

My mango fruits mostly rotted this year, some look really good on the outside but rotted inside.

I had 20 bags of pine bark mulch in my chicken runs. That much and the ground still muddy.

What I will do in my garden today is ..nothing, but when the sun comes out & the rain stops, I will cut down/trim down as much of my plants and trees as I can so that it opens up for a clear flow of fresh air to circulate through.

No more trees/plants for this year at least, too much rain.

I love when I find someone who cares so much for their chickens comfort! Good on you! My 13 year old Cochin will be spending the cold snap in à pet play pen in my guest room. My 6 year olds will stay in the coop but will have an oil filled radiating heater to cuddle up to.

Spent time this morning trying to find sand for the backyard. Finally found some at HD thank goodness. There's so much ice in the backyard especially the path leading to the pullets coop. After shoveling so much slush yesterday there were still lots of slushy footprints that froze solid overnight. Very hard to walk on. The stores here keep running out of sand and ice melt. Next storm comes through tomorrow night and will last all night and end with rain and sleet on top of another 5 inches of snow. I hope I can smooth the bumpy paths to make walking less treacherous. I picked up a few more packets of seeds. Still need corn and golden beets. No rush as nothing will be planted until mid March. Oh, and @Smokerbill, I’m jealous. Both of my grills are still buried in ice.
