What did you do in the garden today?

Starting cleanup of flower beds. Lily stalks, old iris leaves, and of course, shotweed. Scratching in fertilizer and Preen. Going to pre germinate snow peas and beets.

My gazebo collapsed over the winter so got the honeysuckle cut away from it. Such A thick tangle! New gazebo ordered and will be here in a few days. Shouldn't take too long for the honeysuckle to completely enclose this new one. Such A sweet smelling shady spot to rest in the summer. The side walls of the old gazebo are very decorative and might work well for support for my gladiolas. Gonna try repurposing somehow.

I have 4 pots of habaneros, 2 pots of jalapenos, and 2 pots of a couple different kinds of onions planted. The shelf is up, the lights are on, and now I wait. And water.

I walked the garden and decided I need to deep mulch again this year, probably 30 bags worth. I've put it down rather thin the past couple of years.
I let the hens run rampant in there for the day.
I also cleaned out 26 birdhouses, sprayed them and hung up 6 more. I did have one that was beyond repair and tossed that.
The purple Martin gourds are now empty, sprayed, and up again too.

Was that not crazy?? We got it here and my husband looked and said I swear I hear thunder? I looked and sure enough it started booming here!! Not much rain though.

Oh happy dance! Started my first seeds today! I love the variety you can have when you start seeds. Peppers, celery, onions, and snapdragons are in this seed tray. I "top" my most of my pepper plants so start mine a couple weeks early.

You may know this. Peas will come up with preen down. Beets will be lumpy if grown with preen.

Collected some grafting wood. Did yard cleanup. Small fire to burn twigs and trimmings. Nice day with a breeze. Windy and dry tomorrow fire alert.
