And my chives are looking huge this year, their third year in the ground.

I'm jealous... I can't get chives to grow to save my life. I've tried both in ground and in containers. It usually dies by mid summer

I bought this slug trap that says to use beer as bait, but I haven't killed a slug with it yet, so I emptied it out and put in one of those Andro outdoor ant bait things inside and poured in a little borax and sugar mixture to attract the ants. At least the slug beer house keeps the water out.

my mother puts a sardine can in a shallow hole (level with soil) and fills it with beer. next morning she finds a slug party inside the can.

Mine were Yukon Gold. I tried to overwinter them in the dirt in my raised bed. I'm really leaning towards ants eating them from the inside out. I have a lot of trouble with ants (fire ants, no less) in my raised beds

long time ago I put beetroots and potatoes in an old wooden chest box. I filled it with sand and kept it in the basement. it worked.

Good morning everyone. I checked the rain gauge, we got half an inch. No big puddles but the soil is soaked, exactly what we desperately needed. Crazy broody came out so I stole her eggs while she ate. That’s it for me outside until it dries out some. I got a few apples chopped into bits, coated them with cinnamon and put em in the dehydrator. Igor works tomorrow so grocery shopping and laundry for us the rest of the day. Have a good day all.

My determinate red snapper plants are reaching the end of its life cycle. I've been having tomato, basil, cucumber, olive oil and sour dough bread for breakfast daily. This is the first time I grew and ate my cucumbers with tomatoes. I usually just pickle and use the American flavored ones in sandwiches and use the shoyu flavored ones as a side dish with rice and meat.

Since these tomatoes were grown under an insect net, I didn't have to spray them with an insecticide. The main issue I had with the insect net was I didn't think of supporting the branches before they collapsed and kinked from the weight of the tomatoes.

Instead of the wire cage, I think I will build a one-inch PVC frame around my DYI earth boxes and hang strings down under the netting to support the branches on my next grow out.

I would have to wrap each tomato with a nylon fruit bag without the insect net which is labor intensive. The fruit flies in my area would ruin all the tomatoes without it.

So jealous you're getting tomatoes and cukes already, but definitely not jealous of having those fruit flies!!! So sorry you're having to deal with something so hard to eradicate.
