What did you do in the garden today?

Hmmmm. Now it's possibly too late to grow them from seeds. So good thing I got some sets.
I am still on the fence about growing onions this year. Last year I did. It was okay. I will probably only grow Tokyo bunching onions this year.

I put my seedlings outside today since it was overcast and rainy most of the day. Had not seen them since the 7th. I topped some of the peppers that were ready for it.

I'll be up-potting the latest peppers and tomatoes this weekend. 😁

I chopped down my everglade cherry tomato plant and made 2 pints of ketchup. My preference is minced garlic, grated onion, 1 TBS of vinegar, 1/2 tsp cummin, and a 1 to 2 ratio of salt to sugar to taste with each pint of blended and strained tomato liquid, plus 3 TBS corn starch to thicken.
I've never tried making homemade ketchup. Does it taste like a hunts or Heinz store bought ketchup? Or better?

How do you top peppers? I have read it on here but I haven't ever seen/ or done it myself.

I would love it if you can please post your ketchup recipe. Thank you

A couple of Marconi Rosso sweet peppers finally sprouted with my Big Jim sweet peppers on rock wool cubes. On my first failed attempt with rock wool, I stuck the Marconi pepper seeds tight into the rock wool cubes with a tweezer and had them under a small grow light and heat pad.

On my second attempt with rock wool, I placed the pepper seeds loosely in the premade hole and kept them covered with a black t-shirt with no heat mat and after a few weeks I saw a white root pop out from one of the seeds and moved the seed tray onto a heat mat under a small grow light and now I see green foliage and other seeds sprouting.

I think covering them at room temperature for a few weeks and then moving them to the heat mat under a grow light made a big difference. However, it could also be the way I placed them loosely in the rock wool hole and kept 1/4 inch of the rock wool cubes submerged in water.

I will take out the first sprouted seedling tomorrow, so I can keep the seed tray covered.
Is it too cool that you need a heat mat in Hawaii? Marconi peppers are wonderful. I smuggled seeds home from Italy once. Can't grow them where I live now.

DH dug, and I potted up the extra thornless bush raspberries to sell. Planted beets and potatoes yesterday. Have to redo my strawberry towers this year, and have a lot of runner babies to use, which I dug up from the garden pathways where they spread to. Been raking moss, weeding and fertilizing all the beds. Have to garden between the rain showers. Saw 5 eagles cruising overhead today. Chickens were all under cover in the run. Smart girls.

@TJAnonymous

When I was looking for plum trees, it was good that I learned this ahead of time -that there are Asian and American Plums, which don’t cross pollinate. So, I picked two American plums (Green Gage and Purple) and will hopefully get some cross pollination -might get blooms this year (although the one stunted by Japanese Beetles might not flower yet). These two were purchased from Grandpas Orchard (MI).

I googled green gage and found out it is the same I might have: Ringlotte. wikipaedia says it is european plum tree originating from middle east (iran). another variety I have is black diamond plum.

48 yesterday, 62 today, 64 tomorrow, and then boom-crash! 38 on Thursday.

41 right now. Except for tonight, all the nights in the upcoming forecast are in the low 30s/upper 20s. I really hope that keeps everything from budding out too early!

I'll be working in the garden today. Tomorrow is my chiropractor/errand run day.
