What did you do in the garden today?

I'm going to have to plant some peas this year. Problem being the gophers. So I dig a trench lay a 3 foot wide 12 foot long piece of chicken wire in bottom put dirt back plant and then zip tie the length together.

Have been collecting duck weed from the pond for the chickens and mealworms. Both are eating quite a bit of it.
That duck weed multiplies like crazy!

Yes it's invasive believe it or not they are going through it faster than it can grow. Course the pond isn't large and I can only collect from about 200 square feet of it due to dead trees that have fallen in it. Will need a backhoe to remove it.
I do get quite a bit of exercise collecting it for them.

the mustard lettuce we have been in the mid to high 70's and 80's a few days low 90's

Probably wouldn't work here except for a brief time in spring and fall. We have the miners lettuce that grows wild here in spring but since it's ala natural not sure if any of the billions of deer here have peed on it or not. Maybe I'll fence some areas in. Really very tasty.

Really does well here wild. First year I was here I collected seeds. Discovered very quickly that wasn't necessary. It does not do well in the heat as most lettuces don't. Picked before flower is best.

Our pond is a unending supply of duckweed, use a pool skimmer to harvest, toss into a 5gal bucket, toss it into runs birds gobble it!
Supposed to have lots of protein but it also contains tons of water.
Have a almost flat steel roof on the backside of my garage, have thought about drying a ton out and baging it up for winter but haven't tried it yet.

oh yes last year all my lettuce's, spinach, broccoli everything bolted in June here had never had that before but remember there is no climate change :wee
Well something is changing. First moved here temps were 105 seldom 110 now 115 isn't beyond my thinking anymore. Fires are a huge concern here. One started about a 2 hours drive north from here. Mandatory evacuations are in place
This is a picture of the fire earlier in the day from where I work. Thought it was a real cool thunderhead at first till I realized it was coming from the ground up. The air here is really bad too many fires north of us. The bottom half of fire is literally blocked from the smoky air.

I dried a little of it, the deer ate it!!! Dried would be ideal with a higher protein content. The mealworms and their beetles are devouring it. I had only put it in for moisture but when I put some in it was gone in the morning.

I've drilled several small holes in the five gallon bucket for collecting it. I've tied a used window screen to a rope and throw it on top of the duck weed. Pulling bunches back in then use screen to scoop under and put in bucket.
