What did you do in the garden today?

I wish I had bees! I've hardly seen any around here this spring. Even Bumblebees are scarce. In previous years, there were tons of Bumblebees. The few I've seen this year are much MUCH smaller than normal. The only thing that seems relatively abundant are tiny sweat bees. I've hardly seen any grasshoppers either. A few babies but not many.

This does not bode well....

DD and gs got the tomatoes planted last weekend and I planned to garden today. I didn’t look at the radar. Rain next several days!
I will make soap today. I’m trying these 2 oils to see if it will help us from being eaten alive when we go out!
We have 3 of our soapberry trees sprouting! Would be cool if all 5 came up!
We also have a new batch of babies! This time we got 10 out of 17!

Planted a bunch of Dahlia tubers in a bed that doesn't have anything in it. They've either been sitting in a box or a bag for months, amazingly, most of them were actually sprouting 😳 . At least that let me know which way was presumably "up".

I've got a bunch of bearded iris tubers that are in the same boat - I dug them up last fall from their "temporary" bed (where they'd been for the past 10 years,) fully meaning to stick them back in the ground. Now I'm wondering if I even want to bother, they're beautiful for the short time they bloom, but the areas I have that they would like (full sun, facing south, well drained, yada, yada,) is mostly already home to other stuff.

I already took ins some dahlias I don’t have enough space for, then, while picking up the daycare dog, I saw the neighbor was giving away free tomato plants 🙈 yes, I restrained myself and only took 2, then, I had to buy extra pots and potting soil
I also planted some (red) basil and marigolds to keep pests away from the tomato plants
View attachment 4132963Wow, can‘t keep up here right now, have 21 baby chickens running around and sh..ting like there is no tomorrow, picked them up on Wednesday, Tuesday, hubby said he can’t stand them in the house, so built all of Tuesday a predator safe ( I hope) coop,
First time ever having Baby chicken without a hen, I had one broody, but she decided she will only look after babies which she has been sitting on for 21 days 😬

My fruit leather is really struggling. I had it in the oven yesterday at 170 degrees for 5+ hrs and it still wasn't done. Put it back in this morning. It's been in there for 2 hours now and still not done. 😕 Yesterday it was on a basic bake setting. Today I put it on convection bake. That seems to have helped a little but I'm still surprised it isn't done yet. I do have a dehydrator but it's a pain to use and I don't like it. The trays are just flat wire grids and the settings are very very limited. (I didn't buy it... My mom got it as a gift from my step-dad for Christmas the day he passed away.)
