What did you do in the garden today?

I'm picking a head of cabbage tomorrow. One has started splitting open on its way to bolting.

Lettuce needs thinned/transplanted soon too.

Onions and shallots liking the long daylight and heat. And weed tea fertilizer. I think some beets need pulled out of the ground too.

Looks like I still have a lot more dill coming on after cutting all the big heads off. Maybe I'll have fresh picked dill to add to the cucumbers when they're ready.

Recipe?? And how do you fry them? I think I'm going to have gobs of zucchini in a few weeks, so I'll need more ideas of what to do with them.
I wash them, then chop it "fry size. Put them in a gallon ziploc bag. In a separate bowl, I mix the dry ingredients below. Then mix in the wet ingredients... Add the the ziploc bag. We deep fry for about 6-7 minutes. Then throw them in the oven on 375 for about 10 minutes. Helps them get a little more crispy...

Dry ingredients -
3/4 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1.5 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp Country Bob's seasoning (or Cajun seasoning)

Wet ingredients -
1 egg
1/2 cup water
2 Tbsp hot sauce

Even though I use Cajun seasoning and hot sauce, these DO NOT come out spicy... If you want spicy, I'd probably add some cayenne.

Edited to add - this is a GREAT way to use those giant zucchini that you find hidden...

DH is all happy harvesting his plants! He's been baking a lot of quiches from the Silkie eggs & a lot of dinners for us w/ his zucchini & herbs. The cukes & cherry tomatoes go mostly to the hens.

Even the small zucchini plant on the right survived & is sprouting blooms. Nature is so surprising sometimes!
