Hope you can read my handwriting. It hits all flavor profiles.

Thank you!

My Brunswick cabbage seeds arrived from Baker Creek and I got a dozen seed cells planted with some of them. Fall cabbage, I hope.

I think I'm going to pull up an onion and slice it up to pickle with that cucumber I picked this morning. Vinegar, water, salt, pepper and sugar. So they taste a little like sweet pickles. Hahahaha
I haven't tried Brunswick. I always plant earliana, flat dutch, Wakefield and a golden acre here and there. Flat dutch takes all summer usually but the amount of rain we've gotten started a fungal disease in it.

We got 4.5" inches of hard, heavy rain last night..we weren't forecasted for anything. Our block sits on a slope and I'm towards the bottom of the hill. So river ran through my garden..my mulch, grass clippings and straw is gone. The river was at least a foot deep. I'm grateful most of plants stayed in the ground and my chickens coop is built up higher, so they are fine. Cleaned up what I could and called it good. Babysat my grandson who is very autistic and is focusing on Thanksgiving right now for some reason. He wanted to make a pumpkin pie. So we made one and he had the best time making it. The pumpkin I canned last year from the garden.

Rain! Glorious rain!

We have received about an inch. Everything around us got way more... But the ridge our house is on always splits the clouds so stuff goes north or south of us. However, the rain did drop the temperature down to 68 for an hour or so. Glorious! It went back up into the upper 80s. Still better than 120! I'm going to try to clean out the hoop house in the morning and start my fall broccoli...

I went out to pick my last two cushaw squash. I'm told you can use it just like pumpkin... Thinking about canning it. Got stung by fire ants while I was picking it... Grrrrrr... The grass is super high but I can't cut it because of the lack of rain.

Made some homemade mint chocolate chip ice cream. Sooooooo good!

I planted Golden Acre this spring but it wanted to bolt before I thought it was ready to pick. The heads were loose, not densely packed. Brunswick is supposed to be a good fall cabbage.

Okay little rant because I am frustrated:

2 days ago I placed an order for 20 seed packets and all was well until I ordered some for my friend as a present (not for any reason just was in the mood to) and after ordering those I realized if you buy 25 seed packets you get free shipping. Well as each seed packet is $1 and shipping was $5 I felt like an idiot for spending money of shipping when I could have bought more seeds so I contacted them and asked to cancel the order with 20 seed packets and gave my reasoning (i like to do that I’m not sure why given that it is usually unnecessary) which was basically what I said above but I didn’t mention that I had placed a second order after the one I was talking about. Well this morning I checked and saw I had an order canceled so I went and picked out a ton of seeds, somehow 25 turned into 36 but not the point, and placed the order but now I just looked and they canceled the order I made for my friend not the order for myself so I have 20 seed packets that are now shipped and 36 that were ordered but now I don’t know what to do because I am a broke teenager who funds the majority of my gardening hobby so that $5 wasted on shipping a lot more important than it seems which sounds stupid given that I spent an extra $11 when I thought it was canceled but those were supposed to be all my seeds for next year so I wouldn’t have to be buying $3-4 seeds. I’m going to have to find out how to return the first order or something which really isn’t that big of a deal but I’m just frustrated. I feel like I’m making it seem like this is a horrible company but they have been and still are my favorite place to buy my seeds from and I know this isn’t anyone’s fault and just some misconception but that still doesn’t take away me being frustrated over all this. sorry for all this 😅

Didn’t work in the garden today nor did I spend much time with the chickens. No, I decided to do my better half a favor and cut the grass for her as a surprise(she usually cuts on Fridays). Well, imagine my regret when a task that usually takes about an hour and a half turned into a 4+ hour journey, with a zero turn I might add. This variable sequence of heat and a bit of rain has caused this grass to become thick and tall and this is since its last cut last Friday, plus I had to replace the blades and clean the mower deck after mowing about a quarter of the property after realizing something wasn’t quite right with the mower, which meant a re-mow was in order.:barnie Well, I survived, she’ll be surprised and happy and we got 3 or 4 overflowing wheel barrows of compost material……and, I managed to survive so again I’ve been blessed on yet one more day.

you wanted to surprise your better half and you did it. why do you complain?
