What did you do in the garden today?

Black Walnut, good for staining clothes, traps. Shell has a few uses and the nut meat can be eaten raw, cooked, added to brownies, cookies, turned into cooking oil, and a type of liquor.
Awesome!!!!!! Thanks!!!!!

We've discovered the culprit who is eating all my cantaloupe and kale!

DH texted me and said Bugs didn't run away from the mower when he was out mowing the garden area. I walked down there and, sure enough, the cute little turd was stretched out next to the tomatoes.

I told DH "that's a domestic rabbit!" He/She has a black tail, white belly, and blue eyes! We tried to catch her but couldn't... So I took a live trap down there with some watermelon in it. I really hope we can catch him/her. Besides eating my vegetables, I'm worried it will get hit by a car because my garden is next to the road!

I wouldn’t go that way. I really prefer to use local sources for canning stuff. But I am really excited about making apple cider jelly. I’m sure the flavor has to be more intense using cider as the base.
I keep some handy during jelly season in case my own squeezings are just shy of what I need. Like I could do TWO batches of jelly if only I had 3/4 of a cup more, kind of thing.

I’ve been falling behind on my lettuce seed harvesting, so I tried to remedy that today. Only got maybe a third of them off the plants though - the seed libraries are going to get a good stock of them this year!
I have a native ground bee nest next to the lettuce 🥬. So they will have to self sow

I have a box of traps that I boiled in water with walnut hulls about 50 years ago and they're still kind of black and not rusty at all.

I prefer American native black Walnuts. Deeper richer flavor than English walnuts.
