What did you do in the garden today?

Hi Chickadoodles. When Hubs was building our greenhouses, our neighbor asked if we would be interested in some free plastic to cover them with. He knows the owners of a nursery, and they were in the process of changing out the plastic on their greenhouses (they change their plastic out every 3-5 years). We happily took all the plastic they offered, which was enough to do both of our greenhouses, with plenty more for other uses. I'm estimating that the plastic is roughly 8 years old now, and it's still going strong. Not sure what the greenhouse supply co. was talking about. Were they trying to sell you something more expensive, by chance? ;)

Thanks chicmom. Do you have pvc on your greenhouses?
I will likely paint mine to keep it from cracking in the heat anyway.

Some of you may remember I planted eleven strawberries sometime around last May. Well they went crazy and I’ve been dividing them up ever since. So far I’ve moved over 194 of them. I’m only half way through the bed :th I don’t even do anything special when or after I planted them. I barely even watered except when it didn’t rain for a month or two.

Chickmom I would like to use something different. But dh has had neck and back surgery and needs another disk replaced I his neck. So he does what he can

Dan all my strawberries did ok over this so far. But something got on the kiddie pool and ate all my strawberries.
I don't know what it was. A large hole I. Everyone!
I bought some giant strawberries last summer and scraped seeds off of them to try to grow some. They were huge.
Im going to plant these in something else on my porch to try and keep the bugs out of them.

That's an exciting number of strawberries! I also need to divide mine up... Last yer they were so thick that they'd have trouble ripening from no sun. Then I would miss strawberries and come back later to find them nothing but blue/green mould in a strawberry shape on a stem. :sick
I have GOT to thin them out this year. :O I did get a full quart of strawberries last year from just one harvest.

Dan that is amazing! You do everything big and in large numbers. :wee

I hope you guys don't mind me joining you in the gardening chat!

Wow amazing strawberry growth! I need to do something with mine if it ever stops raining! Due to next week so I'll add thinning them to my list of things to do! I've only had a garden for 2 years so I'm still a total newbie and on a huge learning curve!

Last April we bought the old tobacco barn that is right next to our garden, it has given me a south facing wall in my garden :wee:clap I didn't do anything with it last year and it has ended up as a messy weed infested dumping area which was making me sad as my washing line is right there and DH cross as he can't get the mower / strimmer in. This morning before it started raining I've managed to weed, flatten, cardboard and thick shredded wood mulch about a metre out from the barn on half the length. I still have the other half to do but it has brambles and all sorts so wont' be as easy. I'm so pleased with the results - very clean and tidy! I also had a hack at some of my hibiscus bushes to tidy them up. The weather is meant to get a bit cooler but clear and sunny over the weekend and into next week so looking forward to getting lots done!
