What did you do in the garden today?

Quote: Hmmm you have me very confused!! Lazy is in Maine, a stones throw from me. ANd as she planted lettuce and s pinach a few weeks ago, I can't imagine she is p lanting that again, or maybe she is. I dont' see her list of plants unless it is before 2/11 . . . . do I need to search BEFORE 2/11??

Arielle, I have a confession to make. I was planting to plant lettuce and spinach in my green house, until the last 2 storms dumped so much snow that I couldn't even wade to the green house, let alone get the door opened. So I didn't plant, but if I did, in the green house, with a 1' high tunnel over the planting, they would have been fine, and I'd be eating them by the end of March. It's just as well that I didn't get around to it, as I'm going to have to repurpose the green house into a tractor to house my new chicks that will be hatching and arriving 4/7. If you have a cold frame or green house, you can push the planting envelope about 2 months earlier, and 1 - 2 months later than you would be able to without them. I also fail to mention that I should be a member of the procrastinator's club, but I can never seem to send in my dues before my membership would expire. You're about 1 to 1.5 planting zones south of me.

Spring is in the air, I can feel it. The birds are singing nicely in the morning.

Pruned and cleaned up the silk oak tree. Removed dead growth from euphobias. Watered seeded areas. Added dry bedding to worm bin.

Yesterday I tucked in the snow peas that were exposed by the torrential rain. It turned into snow later in the day and then froze. ...well, they're snow peas...I just couldn't wait to dig in the dirt any longer.

Spaded up a row along the orchard fence and planted a row of tall purple podded heirloom peas, a few nasturtiums, and scattered two old packets of poppies over it all; then watered it in. That was yesterday.

My tomato seeds have started coming up today and cabbage plants are doing okay. I sowed mustard in the garden last week, but they haven't started sprouting yet. Been unusually cold for our area.

I understand the membership issues-- I too would forget to send in my dues!! lol

They keye to starting earlier than the frost date is the greenhouse!!! GOt it.

My green house was converted to a turkey coop ! Darn turkeys needed a house. Never seena turkey willingly go in a coop yet-- they prefer the tops of coops or branches high in the tree!
