What did you do in the garden today?

I have 600 pumpkin plants and got powdery mildew for the second year in a row! tried baking soda and all that stuff nothing really work for me! Don't want to use any chemical stuff but i can't lose this much again!

I know!! What a pain!!! that is exactly what mine look like ( I still have pumpkins growing I am just worried the plant wont have enough nutrients for them to get big / thrive.

WOAH!!!! 600 PUMPKIN PLANTS!!! that is awesome!! I have two! (small time gardner) but next year I already have plans for the garden to take over the majority of the yard.

Do what ever it takes to save them. I know it's a lot of work but you can remove the affected leaves so the young unaffected leaves can get the sun and thrive.

Planted some pumpkins in late July. I currently have 7 decent vines gowing. I will be happy if I get one pumkin this year. Squash bugs are a big pest.

My plants were over run with them last year. Couldn't get the girls to eat them. I hear that guineas LOVE them. But, after a winter and early spring of the chickens being in the garden, I didn't have one squash bug this year, and very few cucumber beetles!

3 what? Slugs???? Here, they grow as long as my index finger, and almost as fat. They are extremely plentiful, and during the last few years, land snails are even more plentiful. Before chickens, they'd mow down a lettuce planting in 1 - 2 days, and if it was seedlings coming up, they'd mow them down as they sprouted. I still keep some "Sluggo" around for those tender crops.

Yes! slugs! will the chickens eat them!? I have never heard of Sluggo before... I just googled it! haha There is a product for everything.

My flock especially likes snails. They will eat the smaller slugs, but won't eat those 4" long monsters, and I can't blame them! Sluggo, or Escargo are pelleted iron phosphate. There are other brands out there. Check the label to be sure there are no other insecticides added. Supposedly safe to use around pets. However, when i use it, it's only after the area has been fenced off from chicken access.
