What did you do in the garden today?

Yes it is! You forgot humid....

I just walked to feed chickens... Then sprayed (dribbled) some of my fish emulsion on plants.. Starting to get tomatos on the vines. Planted heirlooms and standard varieties. All are blooming in their different sections of the quilt.
We have a terrible problem with ants. We try not to use chemicals near the garden or chickens and goats. I wish i could find a sure fire organic method of ridding them. Does any one sell ardvarks?

Now, that's an idea.

A boiled solution of sugar water with Borax does a nice job killing ants. Some folks even just mix Borax with dry sugar. The added benefit is that the Borax (in small quantities) is a soil amendment, as a lot of soils are Boron deficient. Beware, it is also soil toxic if used too much. Do a google search for recipe for "Sugar and Borax ant bait".

My mother in law told me to use 7 dust to get rid of the aphids. Do yall think it will work? Tried the high pressure water stream and as far as I can tell two of the three plants are clean.

Sevin will kill the aphids for sure...and any other bugs or microbiology it comes in contact with. If you aren't concerned about the health of your soil (not being too crunchy here--I can think of many situations where soil health just wouldn't matter like container gardening where you just dump the dirt when you're done), it's the most effective solution I can think of--albeit perhaps over the top. I'm still thinking the best first step is just to hit them with a stream of water and knock them off the plant.

It is one that comes up most often- it is not sure fire. I tired a couple years ago. To be quite honest i don't want my dogs chickens or wild animals to try and lick the bait up.

I really like the ardvark idea best
