What did you do in the garden today?

Today I blanched and froze 6 quart bags of green beans. That puts me at 27 now. The next beans I pick are earmarked for Dilly Beans. I've never tried them before and I love to make new things. I also had enough tomatoes left over for 3 quarts of stewed tomatoes. I processed them and they are cooling on the counter. Tomorrow is apples!!!!

Today we got the new bed ready for winter planting. This is our first year doing a full on winter garden so hopefully it goes well. It's still pretty hot here so the planting will have to wait a few more weeks. Our tomatoes survived the summer heat and are now back to producing, yay! Hopefully we get a few more good harvests before it gets too cold. The jalapeños and Serrano peppers and going crazy! Guess I'll be pickling and drying thos

Picked my lonely sugar baby watermelon today along with a Charentais melon. Will have them tonight in a fruit salad! Also picked the rest of the Lemon Cucumbers. Some were over-ripe so the chickens are enjoying them.

Pulled some second crop bolted cilantro for the chickens as well. They love that stuff!

Built another raised bed for onions 6'x2' and filled it with spoiled hay and pig dirt.

Also mulched the Broccoli and Chard with pine straw from the woods.

Have had good rain lately and the plants are beginning to take off.

I've been on a job assignment and so came back to some rather large squash. A couple of the White Lebanese were positively club-like. Chickens will enjoy some for breakfast, but I did some deep fried round slices... Yum! The White Lebanese look like a white zuke, but they're really meaty (not watery) and few seeds. Harvested a ton of Juliette and Sweet 100 cherry tomatoes. Waiting a bit more before harvesting and roasting peppers.

My lemon cucumbers were grown up a square bean tower and they took over the whole thing and grew in thick. It's kind of an adventure reaching in to find them.

Put down some more mulch this morning and potted up some water plants for my water garden.

Then I potted up some more creeping phlox and ice plants. Crepe Myrtle cuttings started showing green....I thought they were dead.

I found a very deep red and a purple and will get some more cuttings in the morning. Will also dig up some more butterfly weed if possible.

I'm pulling in tomatoes by the pounds and seeing a need to can, as the freezers are bursting! The green beans are coming in pretty well too. I should dig in around the potatoes, but I am more concerned about how and where to stow the cabbages and cauliflowers. Oh for a root cellar!

21 pints of applesauce yesterday! I'm out of town until Thursday and I can't stop thinking about what needs to be preserved from the garden, lol. I have apples waiting to be turned into Apple Butter and salsa ingredients . . .
