What did you do in the garden today?

Wow 26 pounds of pecans!!! Great :) I've never even seen a pecans.

I harvested about 30 nuts from one of my Black walnut trees about 10 days ago. I was extremely happy - first year one of them has produced.

My friends and I made a cheese, nuts and wine meal with it. Delicious.

I brought home large bags of grass clippings, chopped leaves and regular leaves from town...13 bags total. Also brought home taters from my brother's house and planted them. Raked back the chips, placed cow manure in the row with them, covered that back with the wood chips, then covered the rows with grass clippings and leaves. Will then cover that with a thick layer of wood chips. This winter I'll put wood ashes on the rows until each row has had some.

Got one more row to do in that manner and my spring tater planting will be finished.

I've been ripping and tearing, removing garden debris. Moved my large tractor onto the garden with the intent of covering it with plastic for a winter cold frame. I've sowed seed in it. Not expecting much if any germination before the ground freezes up, but it should start growing and producing early salads in March. I've started the process of converting the whole garden to a Back to Eden format. Laying down cardboard, followed by 4 - 6" layer of wood chips. It's a race against time. Doing as much as I can get done before my chip pile freezes solid, and also having to ration my work so the old bod doesn't protest too much! Harvested some clumps of garlic. Plan to clean the cloves up and freeze them dry in quart canning jars.

That's a bunch of work! Congrats! I love the idea of wood chips but don't think that's in the plan for this year. I'll be glad to get some newspaper down, pulling the straw back to do that. My body lets me know too when I'm overdoing it, and it's a lot sooner than it used to be. I'm away now, and think it'll be quite cold when I get back.

Collected over 50 huge bags of leaves and a few grass clippings mixed with leaves today from town folks. I've got them cached at my son's house until I can bring the trailer in and collect them all. Probably take a couple of trips and I've got even more to collect, as a few folks are going to save me more leaves as they rake them.

Might take those folks some eggs to show my appreciation.

This saves my back, as I won't have to rake all the leaves on three acres now, though I'll still try to collect as many as I can if I can get this lawn sweeper my brother loaned me to work...it's been sitting for years and it's all rusted up. Got out the WD-40 and gave it a good lube an will try tomorrow.

God is so good to me!!!! Showered me with a blessing of leaves for the garden!!!

Bee, That's wonderful. My plans to get to the dump this weekend were a bust. It took us all day Saturday to get the wood split, and we were away from home on Sunday, and it rained most of the day. Had car problems, so hubby has the truck. No leaves for me.

Hopefully, the weather and truck will work out for me this weekend.

Pecans probably never leave the south and if they do they are very expensive.

I saw two pounds shelled today for $8.99. May be able to get them a little cheaper but not much.

We got another 30 gallons of acorns today for the pigs.

It's a short season and limited opportunity, so if you don't get there before the trash guys, you lose. I'm racing them tomorrow, trying to get into town early in order to collect them before the G men. I sure hope you get a plenty! Pray for them, LG...that's what I did and the Lord answered in all caps~ABUNDANCE!!!

Finally got the first load of leaves emptied onto the garden today. Planted that other short row of taters also. Also got a couple of load of wood chips moved...whittling away at that pile little by little, but the pile seems endless...sort of like the loaves and fishes!
