What did you do in the garden today?

I had fungi in my BTE garden this year that I've never seen before...all different types.  They say that's a great thing and some people who live in more arid climates who struggle to get their wood chips to decompose will intentionally infect the chips with fungal spores to speed the composting there.  Every time it rained this year I would see a new and different kind pop up in the chips, some very colorful, so I think my BTE is on the right path so far.  The addition of these leaves should help with all that as well.......

......I'm up to 181 bags of leaves and lawn clippings collected thus far and intend to keep going for as long and as often as I can until they are no longer available or the Lord says, "Enough!".   :gig

You must have a lot of land!!! I'm tired thinking about moving all those leaves and grass....
The mushrooms are cool. I didn't do anything to start them except to water the wood chips but now I throw mushrooms I find on the pile. It's in the front of the house so my neighbors are probably wondering what I am doing.

Not a whole lot, compared to most in the country. There are only three acres of yard/meadow and fifteen acres of woods. But, I'm surrounded on all sides of that with thousands of acres of woodland, so lots of countryside for wild animals and such. We are 1/4 mile from the hard road back here, so it's pretty peaceful and quiet.

I hope to go and get more bags of leaves next week. The rains last night should have brought many more down and we'll get clear weather next week for folks to rake them in, so should be a bonanza of leaf gathering next week!

We have leaves galore in the woods on our property which is the back 1/4 of 2 acres. But have not been able to get out to do anything for over a week now due to rain here. I think we did manage to get outside for about 6 hours one day last week. We have already had about 6 inches of rain here in Nov and it is just the 9th. We used the 6 hours we had to move our chickens to the edge of the woods. Before that at one point I thought we were going to have to buy life jackets for our RIR's. LOL

But we are suppose to have some nice days ahead this week so hoping to get out there and get our garden area cleared out of old crops and ready for the winter months.

Opening up the leaf bags today and distributing them evenly on the garden....so I can move wood chips onto the garden and then gather more leaves this week. And, hopefully, next week I'll be able to gather leaves as well. Hope to pile as many leaves, grass clippings and wood chips on the garden I can to reach a depth of 6 in. by spring.

I'm also running the race against the start of winter. Hubby and I are stacking wood after supper every night. Gives us a nice chance to be outside under the stars, share our day, and get some exercise at the same time. During the day, I'm spreading cardboard in the garden, and covering it with chips. I'll be happy if I have half of the garden covered to 6" before ground freeze. Keeping a deep mulch of garden debris over the garlic bed. I fear that the girls are destroying my garlic! They scratch the stuff off that area just as soon as I put it back on. The seeds that I put in the 7 x 6 tractor have started to sprout, even though I've not given them any plastic to hold in the heat. I'm not in any kind of a rush regarding that cold frame. Have a clear tarp coming for it soon, as well as one for the green house. The green house will be purposed to provide winter playground for the flock with lots of leaves to rummage through. Hopefully, they'll create some nice compost by spring. Then... they'll get evicted, and I'll be able to plant people stuff in there!

We have been getting a lot of rain here in Bama also. The only thing we have been able to do in the garden is gather kale and other greens. We have plenty now for the family so the pigs have been getting acorns and greens to eat.

The produce from the local produce stand slows to a trickle this time of year so we always have a fall garden for the animals. The chickens and goats also like the greens.

The weeds are growing in my onions because it is too wet to weed ans too wet to get any mulch right now so we just let it grow.

I had help digging potatoes lol

I guess "help" is depending on who is asking ha-ha; I could barely get the fork in before they would start scratching :D

I'm kinda bummed to say goodbye to the garden for winter. I have winter peas abd rye at the far end for the girls, and they can kick around in the corn and leftover beans, but everything is pretty much gone now.

I raked up about 3 cubic yards of leaves though, and I put then in a hoop I made with leftover chicken wire for leaf mulch next spring, and the corn harvest is done, so I'm now going to be raking corn stalks that blow in ha-ha ;)

All my leftover gourds and squash are getting nice and squishy for the chooks, and I'm gathering seeds for next year, and to ship off to seed exchanges ;)

Sad time of year for me; light changes, its dark by 5, my garden is gone, no greenery to see at all for miles... And then the snow starts and calving and frozen water... Oh I wish it were spring again already lol :D

My garden is done for the year. Snow is coming next week.I'm just working on winterizing my ducks. I'm planning on painting inside of duck pen yellow. As someone gave me 5 gallons off light yellow house paint. I figure the yellow will make it seem brighter in there.
Other than that I still have a ton of kale in my garden I don't know what to do with. This is the first year I planted it. Ducks won't eat it. I haven't found anything I like with it either. Anyone have any ideas?

Compost :D

It'll make a good green to mix in with browns and make beautiful compost out of it if nobody will eat it ;)

Finished spreading those leaves....my only fear is that I've spread them too deeply and they won't compost as much as I think they will before spring. Only time will tell....

This side of the garden is left yet to put leaves on. I did manage to get three cartloads of wood chip on it, though, and will cover it with leaves if I get a chance to collect anymore. If not, I'll just toss some from other parts of the garden onto this space so I'll have an even amount all over. Hoping the chickens will help with that also. Now I can't see my mounded up tater rows except for the marker flags I placed on the end of each row.
