What did you do in the garden today?

I'm sad to see the season go too. The deep leaves on BKs garden look great. The worms will love that! Yep, it's time to move into the winter stuff and dream about next year. Today I wrapped the bee hives, just another step or two to go with that. I went slowly because they were none too pleased to have their little lives disturbed. Just hope they make it through with a feeder inside. I had great hopes for my potatoes and pulled them today. Nope. Just five good-sized ones and a dozen potato marbles. Ah, well, I have all winter long to figure out how to make it better. And the seed catalogs should roll in in a few weeks. Hope is a great thing, isn't it?

I dug trenches and filled them with straw. Grew my potatoes in trenches of straw. Got the best crop ever.

Lol it always takes @Beekissed and good ol pictures to make me green with leaf envy ;)

DH is always taking my leaf pules and carting them off to his "composite" pile... Which isnt really mulch, and its not compost, its not anything other than homemade soil lol... Ok I sound like a pickaninny lol, but seriously; there IS difference between compost, bark mulch, and leaf mulch :P

I'm always getting all sideways because my bark pile ended up in his "composite" pile, then my compost ended up in his "composite" pile.... Then I cleaned out the coop...yep, lost that too...

I've been chasing him and his Bobcat around AWAY from all my leaf piles lol; he thinks I'm nuts... But woohoo not anymore lol, now there's this lady on BYC with a picture of the most beautiful leaf piles I have ever seen... And why not? Look at the forest Bee has behind her yard :D

Lol thanks for the visual, Bee. I don't think DH is going to touch my leaf piles any more ;)

No... why murder perfectly good chocolate ice cream?
I used to put it in shot glasses and pretend I was shooting down rot gut.
I don't drink, but I've seen my share of westerns.

LOL! Can't stand taste of Kale....tried drowning it in poppy seed dressing...that didn't work either. I know its healthy......maybe I'll try the shot glass method!

Ol Bee got every one of them leaves from the closest town...not a one came from my land!

I started noticing all the heaps and heaps of bagged leaves in town and I kept wondering why in the world would I rake all my leaves when the townies are doing their leaves and just throwing them away. So, my leaves get to stay in place for my chicken's foraging efforts and all of the leaves that would ordinarily end up wasted in the land fill are coming to my place for their new home. I'm going to be their new mama...isn't that sweet?

I even got lawn clippings, shredded leaves, sawdust, flowers, veggies, straw, etc. in those bags. 181 bags total....hope to make it 300 before the season is done.

I'm going first thing tomorrow to adopt more leaves....saw a HUGE pile of bags just today as I was driving through town and will be rescuing the poor little guys ASAP. And didn't have to lift a rake....bags...but no rakes, no tarps, nothin'.

I considered driving around and scarfing random leaf bags from the curb.....but concerned about doggie poop being in there too......

By spring you'll never know it. My pup has been sneaking into the garden and pooping there anyway, (have since taken care of THAT issue)so a random dog turd isn't going to break my stride on collecting leaves. It happens.
