What did you do in the garden today?

My greenhouse is beginning to green up and things are starting to grow instead of just sitting there and that is a blessing. My Brugmansia are beginning to leaf out very well and I got some broccoli, tomato, peppers and other things coming up and it looks like we will have some warmer weather for at least a week.

Looks like the busy season is just about upon us here in the deep south.

I am in the Augusta area and tried a bit of an experiment with greenhouses. We decided to start some daikon, radish, right before that big cold insanity hit us. We use 5 gallon grow bags, because they give us a plug-and-play SFG, and thought that using a clear sterilite container would give us what we needed in the way of a greenhouse for the 2 bags that we were planting in. Well as it turns out.....it actually worked. We had planted 3 daikon in each bag and still have 4 of them, caterpillar or something got the other 2. Not only have they sprouted but we have true leaves on all of them and it has been less than 2 weeks. I am really impressed with this radish so far but also the very simple greenhouse that we made that worked on the little area in temps down to 20 degrees Fahrenheit. No it isnt a great solution for things other than seedlings but the thing worked great for starting seed.

I just wanted to share this little tid bit with y'all so that maybe someone could benefit from it and maybe throw some info my way as well. Thank you.

I am glad you had some success with your radish. I have just started tomato, coleus, broccoli, and green pepper.
I use a heat mat in my greenhouse with plug trays until the seed germinate. Then I put them in six packs.

I have mice in one of my houses and he got in and ate my green pepper seeds right out of the tray. I caught one but I am still getting damage done. They also dig in my potted plants and bury corn from the animal feed in them.

I have found out that a greenhouse doesn't have to be large and it surely doesn't have to have high ceilings. The more plants you can put in a small space the better. Dirt will also serve to store heat at night and it takes less to heat.

I am going to build an all solar house next...I have a plan.

Planted Fava's, harvested the last carrots, cleaned out the cold frame, turned the compost, cleaned the coop, finally the truck came and dumped 6 m³ of wood chips I need to renew the ways and the mulch under the berry bushes.

I didn't do anything in the garden for the last two days. Friday I built ramps and loaded up my hogs and today it was off to the sale.

No more pigs....Hurrah !!!!!!!

O you busy people!! I'm still waiting for snow to melt off up here. I'll get some of my seeds started soon, though. Very short growing season here.
