What did you do in the garden today?

It's difficult to tell without seeing the berry mature, but if I were to wager a guess -- or at least err on the cautious side -- I'd say it could be buckthorn, which would be toxic if eaten. I would not allow the little ones to consume. Again, it's hard to id any plant with just a couple pictures, but if it's purple or black and not red, then buckthorn is a great possibility.
I agree @BrentG . It is difficult to identify with a couple photos, but the closeup of the leaf certainly looks like buckthorn. We called them "poison berry bushes" when we were kids.

I knew it wouldn't be easy but St least you gave me a beginning. I may be tearing out the bush if that is the case.

Sorry having trouble with my satellite internet!

lazy gardener first year we were married he ran a double bottom plow through the garden and took out my first rhubarb plant! Just mowed down his mother's surviving one even though I had a steel fence post by it.
DH has taken out rose bushes, lilacs, strawberry plants, raspberry plants and numerous other plants! He keeps blaming the mower and weed eater. I would put up a border or fence and he would still get them!

Everything is looking great! warming up here nicely. Getting more and more excited over my garden this year!!!!!!

I found a really great site online this morning for people who want to trade scion wood with other people who have what you want! I am so excited. But I don't do nearly as much as y'all do.
Very easy to join, you just email the admin what you kinds you have and they will list you. And you can contact others that have what your looking for and trade.
-Edited to add they have a fruit and nut section.
Here it is if anyone is interested:

A determined man with a mower can get rid of it. I had a clump in the old garden. After a season of mowing over it (I had moved a clump of it to a new location) it was most sincerely dead!

It sounded to me like herrds's husband just mowed over it once, and that probably wouldn't be enough to kill it. I was more or less offering hope for the mother's surviving one.
But I'm still impressed you were able to get rid of yours without digging! Nice! You've stopped mowing the area and let it have the chance to grow back to be sure it's actually dead, right?

That area no longer exists. (well, in theory, it still does esist, but I can't figure out where it is!!!) We had a bunch of trees taken down, some heavy earth work done... We were standing in the yard a couple of nights ago, wondering where the old garden was, and neither one of us could figure it out!

Planted some hollyhock seed the day before yesterday and they are coming up already. I also took a few hydrangea cuttings and repotted some azaleas. I don't know if rhubarb will grow this far south.

I planted a few hollyhocks I got from Peep Show last year and they are ready to bloom. I can't wait to see what colors they are going to be.

I don't know if rhubarb will grow here either.
